I need some answers-India med

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Especially this post found in the thread above:

I think this guy's a rep from AUA. No fourth year med student could be this ignorant.

1.) Stop knocking South Dakota--surprising as it may seem, people do not live like pioneers there, and it actually is a fairly pleasant place to live.

2.) As everyone above me has shown, DOs can practice in many countries around the world, and any DO school, including the newer ones, will have a better match list than AUA.

3.) You have absolutely no idea what it means to practice in South Asia. I have relatives there, and trust me, the meaning of doctor over there is vastly different than in the US. Number one, almost anyone with enough cash can get into their med schools, and there is an oversupply of doctors, many of whom cannot find jobs. Number two, the salary is much lower--sure, you make more than farmers, but it's still a low paying job (why do you think doctors over there are trying so hard to come and train in the US?). Number three, there is mandatory retirement at age 60, so your income is going to be limited (how many doctors want to retire at age 60?).

Let's not even start a discussion of the sanitary condition of hospitals over there. Do you know how some clinics sterilize needles? By boiling them in water. I have had a grandmother and an aunt die from hepatitis C because of contaminated blood transfusions. Want to get medicine in your hospital? Good luck--hospitals lack medicine, because they're selling all their supplies to pharmacies for extra money, and people are force to buy them at exorbitant costs. Want other doctors around so you can refer patients? Many regularly don't show up for work, and come only to receive their paycheck. That's the situation you'll be facing as a doctor over there, and believe me, it's depressing when you can't treat your patients because the hospitals are so corrupt and poorly run. Oh, and if you don't care about patients and are only looking at 'the lifestyle' of being a physician, I know some doctors over there who live in run-down, government housing.

Please, don't give people false impressions of working in South Asia.

Are you sure you want to go to India? lol
