I just recently decided to no longer continue Veterinary school and I want to start Medical School in September but I am wondering about where I can get into now since it is almost January and I have no applied anywhere yet. I don't know what my options are. Can someone help me? I want to stay in New York or Jersey or Massachusetts or in those outlying states as well.

You missed the boat.
I think most schools have a deadline between Dec 1-15.

There may be some schools that are a little later like Jan 1.
You would still need to get all your trasncripts processed by AMCAS which can take up to 6 weeks.

It's too late. Way too late. October was too late.

You can open up an AMCAS, fill everything in, and save it for next year. And start getting your rec letters together for that first day app!

Enjoy a year off before the next matriculation cycle, 6 months before the next application cycle starts. 🙂

Since you can't really apply this year, you have 6 months to do any GPA repair if it's needed or more time for volunteering. Also, you can study for and take the MCAT if you haven't already done so.

Waiting is terrible but you can do other productive things in the meantime.

I am not willing to wait 20 months though. I cant wait that long for something like this.

I don't think you have a choice. Use the time to improve your application. I think it'll be a red flag to have started another professional program and quit, so you'll ned to overcome that and demonstrate a commitment to medicine.

And don't fill out AMCAS now, it won't save it for next year if you haven't applied.

Also keep in mind that some medical schools will rescind acceptances if you have not completed any degree programs in progress.

You seem confident that you will be accepted on your very first try. There is a chance you will have to wait 32 months or even 44. Dropping out of vet school makes you look flighty and you shouldn't be surprised if adcoms make you wait for a while to see if you're serious about medicine.

I'll have waited 4 years after undergrad by the time I start. Not everyone gets to choose.

Check some of the DO schools. Some of them have deadlines as late as February... May be an option.

You're not willing to wait 20 months for a shot at becoming a physician? Are you sure you actually want to be a physician?

You got into vet school, and you're giving up your seat. Somebody didn't get to go to vet school because of you.

Now you think you want to go to med school, and you're not willing to follow the application process?

You can't be serious.

Your career choice is your own decision, but you do realize that you have to trudge through 4 years of medical school and 3-8 years of residency, right?

If you can't wait 20 months, I don't think you're going to be happy with 7-11 more years of training.

However, this is your choice to make.
