Passed the beast (Step 1) with a 203. Not bad for a future psychiatrist, eh?

Q-Bank: 64%-72% week before exam
NBME self-assessment: 440

This test sucks bigtime. I'm so glad I passed and can forgot all that useless **** I had to cram into my head. I've started reading for Step 2 already (blueprints in IM) and it is sooooooo much easier to learn. Very little rote memorization and easy to retain.

Congrats!!, good for you Chianti. How much do you charge??? 👍

Good job. I'm confused though. Isn't the national average a 215 or is that wrong. Also, don't you need a higher score to get into psyciatry or is it not that competitive.

The national average is 221 w/ SD of 21. Psychiatry, at certain places, is highly competitive, but overall it is considered not too competitive.

Hey Chianti, one of my favorite quotes from a psych. resident: "I'D BE CRAZY NOT TO DO PSYCHIATRY!!!"

Psych, at high-name (prestigous) programs is highly competitive. Otherwise, it is probably the least competitive residency out there. The great majority of psych programs could care less about stupid board scores. The ranking process for psych relies heavily on the personal statement and interview- much more than other residencies.
