So, I have been accepted to med school. However, I took a biochem course this semster and will probably end up with a "D" I am absoulutely burned out this semester. 🙁

and I am not sure how med schools will respond to the "D"?? Any insights?

Getting a "D" is biochem is certainly not good news. I had to maintain a "C" or better in whatever I took - and, although biochem was not requirement (I took it last semester, too), once it was on my AMCAS as future work I could not drop it or change it without getting permission.

No one here can tell you what might happen. Best thing to do is to get in touch with your school's admissions office as soon as you know for sure what your grade is - and be perfectly candid without bleeding on the floor too much. I certainly doubt that your acceptance would be withdrawn, but you probably got some splainin' to do. Good luck.

Did you take your final yet? if not, I'd go see your prof and try explaining about your med school interviews and between that and balancing your classes you are burnt out. Ask what you can dio to at least pull a C. Get extra help.

yeah, i took the final already. The class average is about 62%, I am at 52%. I think there will be a curve...but i am not sure if 52% is good enough for a c.

hmmm...i still think i'd go talk to my prof and explain the problem. A D can look pretty bad on your record. I also doubt they'll rescind your acceptance but you never know and I wouldn't want to go in their worrying about it. Se eif thwere's anything you can do to improve your grade..i know it's a long shot but what can you lose?

A classmate of mine (in the MD/PhD program, actually) had a D in his 2nd semester senior year. And he's here. So I doubt it's catastrophic. Check over any guidelines they gave you in your acceptance packet-- sometimes they specify if you need at least C's, or just that you need to finish your degree as you had projected in the AMCAS.

Beg for a merciful C- from the prof. But don't worry you are already in anyway!

1. If it is a prerequisite for your school, you MUST retake it this summer.

2. If it is not a prerequisite for your school, you should call them to ask if it will affect your acceptance. If it will, you should retake it this summer.

Why on earth would you take biochem your last semester? This is the semester you save your cushy electives for.

I wouldn't surprise them; when do you find out your final grade? If it turns out to be a C then you're fine. If you ended up with a D I would call the admissions office and explain to them what happened.

I feel for you man, right now I'm on a break for studying for an immunology exam-- last one of my undergraduate career. I need a 50% for a C, but for some reason I'm still freaking out.

Depends on the school. There is a thread about JHU and bad grades post-acceptance. Apparently JHU's acceptance letter states it is conditional upon "satisfactory" completion of all courses in progress - and anything less than a C is "non-satisfactory".

I'd check with your potential med school.

Instead of studying this term I am SDNing. Pretty soon I will post a thread similiar to this one about how I am getting a D because I spend all of my time on SDN.
