I know there have been numerous threads about Rush but I thought I would start my own. Chances of getting an invite are slim for me cause I'm OOS (they interview 4% of OOS applicants ) and my background is pretty research heavy. I can still hope

Have they even been touring lately? And why do you need them to invite you? I'm sure Geddy Lee would be happy to have you as long as you pay for the ticket. They might even play in your area, so you won't have to travel out of state to see them.

Edit: i think geddy lee has a phd in astrophysics or something, so your research background can only help you imho.

  it would be fun to get at invite from that RUSH too. "limelight" reminds of my younger years but I am referring to the the Rush University College of Medicine....

oh, i see. yeah, they rock too. all i can tell you about the invite is that if they choose not to decide, they still have made a choice.

Does anyone know how to contact rush? They dont respond to my emails and they dont have a phone number listed for their office of admissions. WTF.

There is a phone number but it's useless-they never pick up and they don't return messages...

Hi cbd! Congrats on the UIC acceptance :)

I think there has been one Rush invite on SDN this year...

if i were you guys i would bug the rush people to no end, lest no action ever be taken.

i turned my app in the week i got it (in july), it took 2 weeks for them to say they received it, then they said they lost it, then they accidentally sent interviews to everyone, then just last week they sent me a message that i had never turned in my secondary, despite the fact it says they received it in july on the secondary webpage. it will shock me if they even have a class next year.

DId anyone here get an email saying that they guarantee you an on-campus interview once all your paperwork is in or when your application is complete? I have a friend who is an out of state and she received that email from Rush. What does that say? Is it common or do they just really really want her? Or do they look at your app even before it's complete? Mine was complete really late that's why so im just worried. any input would be nice...thanks!

What the hell? Never heard that before.

I'm hoping that this chaos will result in lots of people withdrawing from Rush! Maybe then I'll have a shot at an interview.

I'll take it-I'm committed to Chicago now...

I was complete in November. I recently e-mailed Rush and they responded in under 24 hours. Of course, the e-mail really didn't say anything at all. :) Text follows:

"Thank you for applying to Rush Medical College. The Committee on Admissions is continuing to review completed applications and is still extending invitations to interview on campus. Be assured that we will be in contact as it makes its decisions."

I am also out of state and received that email back in September. My entire application was complete except I forgot to send them proof of citizenship. I think they review applications even if they don't have the proof of citizenship. I sent it to them right away, but didn't get the official interview invite until December. I went on my interview in January. They are very slow... and seem disorganized... but on interview day they were awesome... now one of my top choices!

the status page was down last night and this morning so did anyone get an invite?

rush hates me!

no invite...

Anybody know when how far out they have interviews scheduled for at this point? Their website says they interview through April so I'm wondering how much longer they are inviting.

Also, anyone have any idea how many out of the approx. 500 interviews they plan on doing have been completed?

I dont think anyone knows anything for sure. After thier fake invites, random emails, etc I am just waiting for my rejection letter from them so I can start a new cycle. g'luck though

If you dont mind me asking...what are your stats and when did you interview in January? Have u heard anything back yet? THanks!

I didn't interview until the end of January, so no decision yet. They said 4-6 weeks. My stats are 29R MCAT (9,10,10), 3.3 overall GPA, 3.8 post-bacc, tons of research, publication, EC's, reason's for earlier low GPA. I know it is not stellar and I have a lot to overcome, but I am hoping they look past some of my earlier mistakes and accept me.... PLEASE RUSH, PLEASE!

I got that interview guarantee email even when I DID NOT touch my secondary at Rush. I m OOS and I was very excited to get that email and so I finished my secondary and got an interview a month after my profile was complete. I was interviewed early december and got accepted in early January.

And me a shot to get off the waitlist :D

Does that fact that they have a waitlist going mean that the class is full? Or do some people they interview get waitlisted though they still have spots?

Good luck to everyone!

Its really suprising to me that Rush's IT department is so whacked out... when I interviewed there, everything was smooth. They even had escorts (not sex workers) to take you from interview to interview etc. It really makes you scratch your head that they seem all over the place with the interview invites etc. I think the fact that they receive such large grants from the state of IL make their job difficult because they have to balance the number of applicants just right... otherwise they lose huge $$$. Last years class was 140 (should have been more like 120-130 max) because they miscalculated the number of people attending.

No, they insisted on interview day that their class was not full and will not be full until they are done interviewing (which I think they said was end of March)

For those of you that interviewed at Rush, how far out were interviews being scheduled? Were you able to schedule within 2 wks of the invite or are they scheduling March invites now?

Thanks! Best of luck to you all!

If I remember correctly, there were 2 wednesdays to choose from... (so 2 weeks) + the week you were actually in. So basically 2-3 weeks out. If you needed a date outside of the scheduled dates, you had to contact them.

So theoretically, they would be sending out March invites this week or early next if they offer invites as they interview.

To answer a few questions that I know...

They place people on the waitlist at the same time that they are rejecting and accepting (~35-40 people are placed on this list, no one was pulled off of it last year and they had an increased class size last year...also the list isn't ranked and when a place opens up they re-review the list)...to fill a class of 128 they offer almost double that number in acceptances (typical for most schools), they are interviewing less people this year so that means that you have an almost 2/3 chance of acceptance once you make it to the interview (the interview in/out state proportional to their acceptance numbers) ...interviews are on wednesdays, the committee meets on wednesdays...so that means the letters of yes/no/maybe will take 4-5 weeks (for me it took 3.5 weeks) and everyone gets a normal legal sized envelope so you have to open it to find out what the verdict is (they mail all of the paperwork once you have put down the deposit), your interviewers don't sit down with the board...the board reads their write-up on you...(so give them something to write about ;) ) I got the invite to interview over winter break and took the first interview slot available...wednsday ~4 weeks later. hmmm...I think that was most of the questions...they are really open and informative at the interview session...any other questions?

Wait, I am a bit confused. I am interviewing late March. Is it safe to say that I am interviewing for a spot in the class, and not a spot on the waitlist? Any extra help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think it is safe to say you are interviewing for a spot in the class. There may only be one spot left and 12 people going for it, compared to earlier invites, but they said that they leave spots open until the end. As of late January their class was not full.

I just interviewed there yesterday. The adcom there doesn't make any promises and are doing things a little bit different there this year. Last year, no one was taken off the waitlist, and they expect that to be different this year. To my knowledge, you are correct: there will be spot available at the time you interview. Hope this helps.

Helps a ton. Thanks. Any interview pointers will be appreciated too from anyone. It seems a lot of the people in this thread that are planning on going to Rush are OOS. I'm thinking / hoping that Rush is waiting until now to do the instate selections. Can't wait for March 21.

Hey Dr. Dorian,

I'm an OOS applicant and was accepted last month. The interview day is very well organized and impressive. As for the interview itself, it was very conversational. They read though your secondary carefully so make sure you know that well. I think they both had access to my entire file.

Good luck

Fantastic, thorough info...thanks! Interviewing soon.

Goodluck on the interview! Ask any other questions you have!

My background is research heavy, but I've been downplaying it b/c I didn't apply to schools that are into that such as UofC / NW.
I know this is taking the thread on a tangent, but why does everyone here like Rush? I liked it b/c it's in Chicago, has a great hospital, and hear that the students there are happy (relatively, for M1s). But what about you guys/gals?

Anyone know if they are sending any more invites out? I was told they are interviewing through March...so I was wondering if that meant the last invites have been sent.

For me the fact that it's in Chicago is big, plus it has a great research foundation. It seems like it would be an awesome school to go to.

(Anxiously waiting for March 21)

good question. im wondering the same!

I'm pretty sure they are done offering interviews.

If anyone got an interview invite and have pretty much decided you are not going to attend Rush and are just going to check it out...feel free to decline the offer so that maybe the open interview slot can go to me! ;)

good question. im wondering the same!

Why is Rush so great? (just some reasons)

1. Location (in the illinois medical district...affiliated with 12 hospitals including the large cook county hospital, also, it is not in the downtown area...it's about 30 blocks away-thus the all the windows look out and the city, and it is not as congested...it is off of the blue and pink train lines and therefore there is great access to the city..or anywhere)

2. 95% of the student body is involved with RCSIP (rush community service initiative program)...they front load the clinical courses in the first quarter so that students can start building their clinical skills in one of the 7 affiliated free clinics (hands-on by January of the first year)....

3. the preceptorship also begins in January...shadowing a family practice physician

4. the school pays students ($17 per hour) to tutor the M1s and M2s ...help them out with the ins-and-outs of classes..etc

5. The Rush hospital has more ranked specialties than any other hospital...several specialties rank very high (ex: #8 in orthopedics)

6. they match well, score above average on national tests, great library and facilities...

7. the community at rush fosters a positive environment...not one of competition...thus, future physicians start learning to help and utilize information across specialites and interests...and can spend more time helping each other (which, in the end, is a better professional atmosphere)

8. the nursing school is one of the best in the nation and communication between doctors and nurses are fostered (again, creating a more positive atmosphere...which hopefully manifests later in the creation of a positive doctor/patient/nurse/hospital staff community )

9. there is a school sponsored research program which pays students to participate in a lab the summer after the M1 year (pays for a few weeks) in order to promote lab involvement (students can then continue in the lab)

10. classes are taught in either lecture, problem-based, or small classroom setting depending on the subject and the feedback from previous years...to allow the most effective style of teaching for each subject...therefore the curriculum is always under revision for improvement

11. Everyone is helping one another to become the best physician they can be in a supportive, highly intellectual, community service based atmophere...

12. alot of poeple stay at rush past school or return because they love it so much...

I am sure i have forgotten something...

(and I don't know if they are still offering interview slots)
