I once annonymously posted a picture and a response said "attractive, but could use some major cosmetic dental work"... not good for a hopeful future dentist. Anyone have any idea in most dental schools how expensive this is? I know they do it discounted, but I wanted to know if anyone had a specific price they had this done for. Thanks.

i think you should wait six years...
then ill do it 😀

They said at the BU tour that students get all their dental work for free. Not sure if that includes braces as well, but... yeah, just throwing that out there.

Actually, after looking a bit more at some options, my teeth are straight enough, I just have gaps (not too wide, but they can be noticed) between all of my upper incisors on both sides.

I think dental bonding may be a much cheaper alternative until I am a dentist (God willing) and can get some porcelain veneers. What do you think? Anyone know how much that may cost as a dental student? Of course I will ask VCU, but I am wondering if anyone has had it done or knows someone who did.

seems like a significant number of dental students get braces while in dental school.....my Indiana student tour guide had braces.....he said he got them for under 1,000 from an ortho student

i want braces too.

Sounds like my teeth. I remember after getting my braces off the dentist/orthodontist said they would like to do some bonding. Then on the car ride home my Mom went off on a rant about her kids not needing movie star teeth or something. 😡 Cheap a*s. I'm glad to hear that some of you also have less than perfect teeth.

Would invisalign work?

I spoke to my husband (dentist) and he had some pretty good points. I think you have a few options. The best would be invisalign if there is only gaps between your teeth and no teeth that require extensive movement or extrusion. Second best option would be lumineers which don't require a prep (although sometimes they give the appearance of teeth sticking out too much). Third would be composite bondings to try to close the gaps (probably the cheapest option). Bondings can be tricky to get them esthetically nice, and I don't know if I would go to a student to get this done. All in all, he suggests not doing anything to your teeth that can't be reversed (i.e. don't prep down to dentin) if you don't need extensive work.

Thanks you so much for your responses. Some good suggestions. I sucked on a piece of white paper for awhile and then fit it to the back of my teeth so the spaces didn't show... looked in the mirror and I was surprised at what a difference even that made. I think I may just walk around like this until I get the problem fixed. 😉

Take an impression of yourself, pour up the models, do a waxup of what you'd like them to look like, take a putty of that and make yourself a snap on smile with some bis-acrylic to see what they could look like. 😀

It worked for me:
