Hello everyone,

I have been rejected by every school that I applied to and now I was hoping someone could give me some guidance into what I can do. I was roughly 2.89/3.0 on my overall GPA and Science courses and my overall DAT was 18 with my sciences 18/19. The schools that I contacted have told me to take some upper science classes or get a master. My question is:

Has anyone or is it even possible to set up some sort of contract or agreement with some schools in order to get into the university if I take these classes or work on my master's?

Has this been done by anyone, anywhere?

Do any schools offer this sort of agreement? So I can call them up for it...

Also, would pursuing a Dental Hygiene program be better then a Master's program before re-applying?

Thank you and I appreciate any responses.

Not that I've heard of.

But you could always take some upper science classes. Or get your Masters. 😀

Good luck.

If we know your stat, we can give you better advice I think...
But Just from what you got here, seems like you have lower GPA & that's why they the school you contacted suggested to go for Masters or taking more classes... they want to see how you handle those upper level courses...
And I never heard of any type of agreement, even if you do it, you never know what's gonna happen...
Otherwise everyone wants to try that...

How can we help you? We don't know anything about you. GPA, DAT, state residency, race/ethnicity, where you applied....

The schools themselves told you what to do: Get a Masters. So I'm assuming your GPA is really bad. Do that, get an SMP with 3.8-4.0, and re-apply.

I would assume no. The whole purpose of the application process is to get the most competitive applicants. It would seriously impinge on the schools' ability to do their jobs if they secured future spots for people who clearly haven't proven themselves yet. This would mean less available spots in the coming years for other more qualified applicants. If you were unanimously rejected (and not wait-listed) that would probably put you in the bottom 45% of applicants, giving you no bargaining chip.

That's an interesting concept. Why not be the first on the block with a "contract"? As for the "what now" you were already given an answer by those who matter.

I have heard of people get waitlisted and put on the acceptance list for the next year but that's it....just reapply early and improve your scores as much as possible....

I don't mean to thread-jack here but, would you guys recommend doing a masters or getting a second bachelor's (in bio or another hard science degree) and retaking those pre-req science courses that I got C's or below in?

You can have 2 or more undergraduate degrees but they will not rise to the level of a graduate degree.

2 Bachelor's doesn't make 1 Master's. 😀😀😀

lol! Here's my situation, I have a really bad sGPA and my oGPA isn't too great either (under 3.0).
Most of my BCP classes are also expired (been longer than 5 years).
I already got a B.S. env. sci.

If I were to retake those BCP classes over, would AADSAS still count the new grades into the undergrad gpa? Or will they now be part of the graduate course work gpa since I already have a B.S. at the time of retaking?

temple and nova have programs that if you get in adn get a certain GPA you are guaranteed admission or an interview.. worht checkin out

Have you heard of the D.5 program at VCU? Every year 10 students are accepted into as D.5 students (meaning they'll get their DDS in 5 yrs instead of 4). They take 4 science courses along with D1's.

Here's the info from VCU's website:

What is the D.5 program?

The D.5 program was initiated about 17 years ago for students who had made an application to dental school, but were not successful in gaining admission. Some of these applicants showed great potential towards being a dentist. However, certain factors, such as lower GPA, weaker DAT scores, many years without taking college courses, and other factors, negated them from being a viable candidate. This program was created to have these applicants take certain selected science courses with the freshman dental class. The purpose was to have them prove their ability to succeed in professional school courses. Four science courses, Mammalian Physiology, Evidence-Based Dentistry, Microscopic Anatomy and Infection and Immunology were selected. The strict requirement for success is a mandatory minimum of "B" in each course. If this is achieved, then the prospective student would have a greater potential of being accepted into the following year's freshman class and they would also be exempt from these four courses. However, if a grade of lower than "B" was achieved in any of these courses, then they would not be considered for entrance into the new freshman class. The students selected for the D.5 program usually have strong science backgrounds, excellent interpersonal skills, and dental experiences.
