"I was very impressed"

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
is what my interviewer told me at the very end. but a week later, i was waitlisted... what does that mean? i am so confused...

people sometimes lie to "save face" or they were actually impressed, but someone else impressed them even more lol

I was told "I'll put it a lot of good words for you. I'll do everything I can..."

No words from that school whatsoever.

Life is hard.

the interviewers may say it as a casual way of courtesy and politeness that just make you loosen up and happy. the same way they talk to their patients. doesnt mean its true

i got waitlisted at multiple place after hearing the similar lines too

I got a few of those and every time I walked away from an interview thinking I rocked the interview, I got waitlisted.

I got accepted into the school where I walked away thinking I just ruined my chances because the interview went so poorly.

Pretty much that. Social Courtesy 101. I never know how well I truly do after an interview, all one can do is his or her best.

One of the schools I interviewed, the interviewer said:" hopefully, see you in the fall." Got waitlisted.

I was told the same crap by one of my interviewers which had me to lose a week worth of sleep, but at the end I got in. I think they say things like that to us applicants to make us feel comfortable because after he told me that line frankly I felt lighter about the process and started making laugh somehow. My advice is to not pay much attention to that line because they just want to say something to us to make us feel better.

The interviewer probably meant what he said.. The adcoms didn't feel the rest of your app was up to par.

They thought you couldnt handle pressure so they threw that in there to make you feel more comfortable for the rest of the day.

Though it was nice talking about random life things with my interviewers I wish I got berated so I can demonstrate my ability to handle myself under pressure. That's something I know I'm pretty good at.

If everyone was as comfortable with having small talks with interviewers like Mr. Perfect here, then interviews wouldnt be necessary

Who would ever want that to happen??

At most schools, the interview is only part of what adcoms consider when they decide whom to accept. In all likelihood you did very well, and the interviewer was being honest. But, they can only do so much to get you into the school.

Well I mean if you think about they very well could have been impressed, dental school is just highly competitive. As well, even if they weren't impressed their not gonna tell you that you sucked.

You'd be surprised....

If they aren't impressed then they simply won't say anything complimentary at all.

It's very easy to tell when an interview heads south.

I had an interview like that. All it did was piss me off and made me not want to attend their school.

The interview I thought I straight bombed got me in. Interviews I thought I destroyed didn't. It's a toss up.

yea.. thanks for your inputs peeps. i'll make sure to never be naive again and confidently assume that i got in based on an interviewer's compliments...

It's very likely that the other applicants were also very impressive. There are also so many factors (GPA, extracur, etc). that go into it. I don't think you were being naive, but take anything that anyone says always with a grain of salt.

Heavily, only if it was a bad interview. If you had a normal to a great experience interviewing, the school sort of checks off that you're a personable and professional human being. I don't think you can "blow them away" during your interview because they pretty much know everything about you from your app. Yes, a great personality can take you a long way but if a committee, which is comprised of everyone else except your interviewer, is making the final decision I can't imagine it weighing that much. But who knows, this is sdn and it's only speculation

Ah interesting. Glad to hear it wasn't one of the TX schools!
Ah no, those interviews were pretty great. The director of admissions at Baylor turned on the heat a little, but it was fine.

Yes she did! I think she just tried to remain very neutral during the interview, so she was a little hard to read.

I'm in the same boat, I had an interviewer tell me "you belong at this school" and that it wouldn't make any sense for me to go to my state school. Haven't heard a peep from the school in 3 months -_-
