I would like to peer review an article for a pharmacy or medical journal.

As a current PharmD student, how would I go about that?

Has anyone done such a thing?

If so, how did you do it?

There are a few common ways to get into that. One way is to actually submit a research paper. The submitting author is typically asked to build a profile with the particular journal and may occasionally, based on the information collected on the profile, be asked to review a paper. Another way is to be recommended by the submitting author(s) as a possible reviewer. When you submit a paper, you are generally asked to submit a list of potential reviewers who are qualified. You would, of course, need to be perceived as qualified. Another way is to be sufficiently well known in the field that an editorial staff member asks you to review based on your established research interests and reputation.

As a student, it may be difficult to be a reviewer for a national/international journal. Maybe you can make contacts with a locally (state or smaller organization, or perhaps a university level) published journal and express interest.

I am a reviewer for a few pharmacy journals. They require you to be in practice to be a reviewer, not a student. As a reviewer, you should have expertise in a practice area. You are reviewing for more than grammar...you need to be able to critique content and study design. Being a pharmacy student would not enable you to be a reviewer for any quality journal like Pharmacotherapy. You are not a "peer" with the majority of authors because most of them have degrees. Maybe if there is a student journal or one with a lower impact factor, that might be possible.

If you want to get experience as a reviewer while a student, ask a faculty member if you can work with them next time they get a paper to review.

Any idea how much a peer reviewer makes? Is this usually a full-time rph career?
