Had a pt with IABP Maquet datascope cs300 this week. Brochure says it...auto calibrates the fiberoptic pressure sensor in the patient & recals Q2h or sooner should the pt or environment change.

So...is it calibrating to an atmospheric level? Is moving the bed with the IABP stationary a problem? What kind of changes cause earlier recal?

I didnt trust it, so placed & transduced a radial a -line. Checked that zero several times. Was surprised to see during case that my radial read 20 pts higher than the augmented pressure on IABP. But, the case was more than 2 hrs and the relationship never changed.

Insight, please?

was the difference in the means or in the systolic pressure?
