ideas for extracurricular activities?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do what you love doing. That way you'll be excited to become involved. Then you'll have something you want to talk about if you get an interview!

Yep - you gotta do what you love to do or you'll get "found out" as just boosting your app.

Ask yourself....do you like kids? How about scouting or the YMCA?

Do you like feeling as though you are giving of yourself? How about serving Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner at a homeless shelter?

Do you like the holidays? How about a facility which gives & distributes packages to children in shelters or military overseas or battered women?

Do you like healthcare (ooops - obviously!) - how about volunteering in a hospital, Planned Parenthood, Red Cross?

Do you like environmental issues? How about joining "clean up" crews around highways, beaches, parks, etc..

Try to google volunteer opportunities & put in your zip code or city/state.

But...do what you like!!! This is part of developing who you are.

Good luck!

I agree with everyone that commented above. A good site to look for nearby volunteer opportunities: www.volunteermatch.org! Joining organizations on your campus that are known to be well involved in the community or for a certain cause is helpful too. Or if you want to become involved in science outside of your classes, research is pretty nice too. (Perhaps in a specific area that you're interested in?)

Besides getting involved in what you are genuinely interested in, don't forget to add pharmacy experience if you haven't already. Personally, I think this is most important because you gotta know that you are truly interested in pharmacy.
