I received a catalog in the mail one time that was full of gifts for a graduating pharmacist. I have no idea what the name of the catalog was, but I've been trying to find something like that online.

Does anyone have any gift resource ideas? I'm thinking of something like a monogrammed mortar and pestle or something along those lines.

And no, I'm not buying myself a present!

Money is always a good gift.

I have so many mortars and pestles I received as gifts my wife has banned all family members for every giving them to me again.

I vote for money.

How about an attractive, hot pharmacist girl for a male and an equally attractive male pharmacist for a female? The pharmacy couple!

Yep, I think that was the catalog place I was looking for! Wow, they have a lot of stuff!

I love the idea of getting a nice engraved pen... Pharmagirl, PharmD sounds pretty catchy so I might have to get myself one too. (that is, of course, only if there is a discount for multiples! )

Where did you get the pens?

My sister gave me a silver charm bracelet with a mortar/pestle charm on it for my white coat ceremony. She ordered it from a silver store in Atlanta called Beverley Bremer - not sure if they have a website.

 I love the Viagra and Birth Control Pill earrings!!

You're a good gift-giver, Spiriva. (for a Pharm rep :p) lol

I got some awesome pens when I graduated from college... It was like the scene from "A Beautiful Mind" where the tradition at Princeton is to walk by the table of a retiring professor and place a gold-plated pen. Having relatives who've gone there (1 taught there), and me to another Ivy, that and good pens have become our tradition.

I've also seen some great silk "Rx" ties before. I've gotten one of those from an ex-gf.

So, give me some suggestions on good pens... I don't know anything about fancy pens! Is the Cross brand the best kind? Are the refills outrageously expensive?

I have a good friend that's a PharmD and a JD, and my sense is that the two professions -- for better or worse -- often cross paths. She really enjoyed our indie music label LawTunes' "The LawTunes Jury Boxed Set" -- four CDs of humorous original law-related rock-and-roll songs composed and produced by a practicing attorney. At least for her, they were just what the doctor ordered! Congrats on the graduation.

no more mortar and pestles!

Those are the ones I got from Cross...but they're pricey. I'd purchased gifts from Cross before, so I got an e-mail promotion and used that. They still came out to around $100 each though.

If you aren't looking to spend that much, but like the pen idea...thingsremembered.com has some that you can personalize too. And they have a store in practically every mall you step in to. Obviously not the kind of pens FruitFly writes his checks with, but they're cute!! ;)

I forgot all about Things Remembered. I'll check that place out. Thanks!

So the Cross pens are that expensive? Wow! Are you guys just REALLY good at not losing pens? I am constantly losing my pens! I suppose though if it were a fancy one I'd actually try to keep up with it.

fancy pens is where it's at. you're missin' out. Cross pens are nice, and reasonably priced. Refills aren't that costly from what I remember.

I have one of these Montblanc William Faulkner pens as a graduation gift. (One of my favorite writers). Apparently a relative got it as a 'steal' for $700.

Good pen for contract signing.

I lose those Pharma pens all the time. But I make up for it with the ones I 'borrow' at the Post Office. I keep my good pens in their cases.

Pshh...no. No fancy shmancy pen for me. I go through a box of Bic pens and pink highliters every week.

Although if you work in a hospital and it's got your name on it, you'll be able to tell who ripped it off! ;)

$700 for a pen? I didn't know such a thing existed. So, if you keep it in it's case, do you ever actually use it?

Haha. Well, maybe it's a Mont Blank William Shatner pen rather than a Montblanc William Faulkner. No wonder they got a good deal on it. :p
Now, that was funny!

I'll take a Pilot G2 07 any day, thanks.
