Can someone explain to me how the two come about, embryonicaly? I know already that fraternal twins come about when a two separate eggs that have been released into the fallopian tube are fertilized, but I need to know the embryology of how identical twins come about, like what does the sperm do or what happens to the egg?

Identical twins arise from indeterminte cleavage. Sorry dont know the exact answer to what you are asking but I thought you should know this info too.

identical twins are formed from a single egg that splits into two separate organisms. Both twins are from the same sperm and egg, so are genetically identical

just know: fraternal twins=========> 2 sperm & 2 egg===> they can be different sex like two different children in family.

identical twins======> 1 sperm & 1 egg ====> gentically same and same sex

Humans have inderterminate cleavage so there is a possibility that cleavage occurs and divides the morula (not sure if its morula or something else) and the zygote gets divided in half, which leads to development of 2 different embryo. I think that is where you get identical twins. I have an identical twin😀

I think the division is before the morula when we're just a ball of cells dividing and increasing in density but not size.
