Hi All,
I'm wondering how you would recommend I handle a question on why I didn't check off "white" in my primary app. Both my parents came from South America and I grew up in a spanish-speaking/latino household and environment. As such I consider myself latino/100% [insert country here]. I suppose my skin complexion is tan /light brown or right in the middle of the color gradient.
Any perceived racial advantage/disadvantage aside, I simply didn't check off "White" because I've never felt myself or self-identified as White. Moreover, my personal and immediate family history aligns much more with components of the Hispanic experience than it does the White experience in this country.
Any ideas on how to address this in an interview if it comes up without sounding conniving, ignorant, distasteful, etc?
