If college is a place for you to teach yourself, why do we have to pay?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Then what is all the hubbub about professors not teaching about?

There are bad teachers who do nothing but read from powerpoint slides. There are great teachers who can explain the material so well you almost only have to study the details. There's everything in between. People complain about the bad ones. Same as everything else in life.

Yeah, didn't you hear? There's saturation in the profession, too! That's all everyone talks about. Why join now when you could go be a doctor instead? That's what everyone else thinks at least.

Taxes in other countries are sky high. Moral of the story is... you pay for it in some way or another.

If you happen to be a pharmacist (therefore make >$100K) in New York and certain other states, your total tax burden approaches or exceeds that of many European countries. I am now taxed at the same rate I would have been taxed in, for example, Austria, but I get neither the views nor the desserts.
