If I retook MCAT after submitting my application, would I have to tell schools?

If I apply to medical schools with my current mcat scores, and I decide to retake the test, would I have to let schools know my new score? For AMCAS schools? For TMDAS schools?

Lets say I get 1/2 points around my new score and I don't feel like updating schools, is that fine?

For AMCAS, yes you'd have to release your score. I don't know about TMDSAS.

Does AMCAS get automatically updated? I don't think TMDAS gets updated unless I choose to release my scores to them. Like lets say I submit my app, and then if I am not hearing back from schools, so I decide to do a retake.

AMCAS automatically gets updated. I don't think TMDSAS will though

Would I still have to update TMDAS schools about my retake score?. Remember my application is already complete for them.

whaaaat? tmdas doesn't auto update with mcat retakes? man, it seems like texas makes every aspect of applying and going to med school as gravy as possible.

Yes, you have to report all previous/planned tests unless you voided. All you have to do to release the scores is click a few buttons on the AAMC THx site. It takes a few seconds.

So, to be clear: you are planning on (as in this hasn't happened yet) submitting your application, then retaking your mcat and half-assing it and doing worse? What's the point of retaking it to do worse? Most people try to do better on a retake

Given that scores were released a few days ago I would guess OP re-took the MCAT in Jan. and scored a few points lower and doesn't want to let his Texas schools know that he scored lower.

According to a sooner you are obligated to tell them based on the rules of the TMDAS. If you don't they may never find out. If you don't and they do find out you are screwed.

If you are holding wait list spots at those schools it won't look great but you can send them in and not draw attention to them with an update letter.

If this is true, that would make the situation much more complicated. There is stuff on the website that would make you think you wouldn't have to, but they are also pretty clear about reporting all tests taken. The OP would have to contact TMDSAS. I would be shocked if you didn't have to. They make you update all your transcripts.

No guys I haven't even applied yet lol. I took the test in the summer got a 30, took it again in Jan. and made a 29. I know that when I apply to TMDAS schools and release my scores to them they will see all of my scores. I am fine with that. However, ONCE MY APPLICATION IS COMPLETE, and I retake the MCAT and my scores are lower than the ones that I sent in, am I required to let TMDAS know? Remember my application is already complete. If I am, then of course I will send them in, I don't want to break any rules and not get in because of that. However, my parents were saying if TMDAS doesn't "ask" for your score after your third retake, and if your third retake is lower then why should you let them know? If it is required, then of course I will let them know.

There are a lot of Ifs, in my statement such as IF I decide to retake a third time, IF I score lower.

I am still confused. First, you are supposed to report all planned test dates. Also, you probably won't get a feel for how well your cycle is going until November. By that time, the next test date (January) will be too late. It would be for the next cycle, so you might as well take it in March. You would know your standing with the schools you applied to by then.

Sooner is correct - they're going to ask if you're planning on retaking and when.

You're trying hard to get around the rules, but they're pretty simple: the expectation is that you will report all MCAT scores to the schools at which you're applying. Adding a bunch of ifs doesn't change that fact, and neither does TMDSAS or AMCAS. Applying with the intention of retaking after your application is complete also seems like a terrible strategy - especially since it's only March.

^ i wont be able to study properly for a retake until this semester is over. I figure i will need 7 weeks of intense studying to do okay.
