This is inspired by a thread I saw over in the pre-dent forum. I thought it would be interesting to see the responses in here. What would be your dream job if not for pharmacy?

Growing up I always wanted to be a marine biologist. I never pursued it for some reason though.

Hahaha looks like we're the late-nighters here, Brill.

If not pharmacy then I would probably have ended up in medicine (maybe internal medicine or general surgery). In the end though, like many other pharmacy folks, the long hours and intense stress associated with medicine turned me off, so pharmacy was a better choice.

I've also considered being a chemist or a high school teacher in the past.

I was in biomedical research prior to pharm school. I would have earned a graduate degree, and I would have eventually made my way into the biotech research field as a research associate.

At what time do you guys wake up...noon? 😉

Noon is a bit too early for me. I'm usually in bed around 6 or 7 am and up by 2 or 3 pm.

That's going to have to drastically change in a few weeks though 😱

OMG!! Time to flip that circadian rhythm upside down! Sounds like the schedule I kept the summer after I graduated from college...staying up till the sun came up...drove my roomates nuts cuz I'd go to bed when they woke up.

My dream job ? Be a personal trainer and eventually trained to be contestant in the Fitness America Pageant.

I would have definately made my way back to San Diego and work for some biotech lab until I decided to go to grad school (chemistry-related). I would eat Sushi in Pacific Beach every night. 🙂

If not pharmacy, I'd be a novelist.

hmm i think iwould gone to law school i was pretty close to doing that before pharmacy cuase i didn't know what else to do with my life.. so i figured why not sell my soul and make loads of cash ;-)

LVpharm,

I just woke up! LOL!

Gotta be at work at 2:30, so perfect timing.

i wish (and still wish) i could be a professional ballerina, but i'm too short to dance for any good companies.

if not pharmacy, then pharmacology. that was actually my back-up plan if i wasn't accepted to pharm school.

I'd get a PhD in organic medicinal chemistry and do research for a pharmaceutical company and possibly teach.

Muah ha ha ha ha ha LSUMED! I escaped Louisiana! Not even a Waffle House or Piggly Wiggly could have kept me there! Well, you are a NORTHEN Louisiana person, so you don't really know the terror of the South.🙂
-jason

I have yet to see a piggly wiggly with my own eyes, but up here in the north, waffle houses are everywhere. litterally, on one road back home there are 2 directly accross from each other, just on oposite sides of the street. It's such a tradition to go up to the waffle house a 2 am on a weekend, totally trashed, and interact with the waitress with only half of her teeth while eating waffles and a greasy omlet. I hardly know where I'd eat when totally wasted if there was no waffle house...you laugh now, but you wouldn't be laughing if you have ever had to wait 20 minutes for a table at 2 am.

Glad you escaped this wonderful, wonderful state.
Jason

Hey, we have waffle houses here, and we're (for the most part) normal! 😉

definately a teacher or architecture.

definately a teacher or architecture.

Can you use "definitely" and 'or' in the same sentence like that BMB my friend?

Yeah, I would've loved to study marine bio as well. I actually want to take courses next summer in orange county or something. I actually had this period where I was 5150 about studying cephalopods. Can you imagine how da%^ huge the axons are on the giant squid?!?! I love that crap!!!!

hehe good point Tri.

Hmmm. Motorcycle mechanic or vet.

I'm going to bump this up b/c I thought it was interesting.

If not pharmacy, I would definitely be a medical examiner. I love the idea of the job and figuring out how people died. I thought about surgery at one point, but I would rather not have to emotionally deal with a person dying on my table...hence working with the already dead. Like some people stated, I'm not going to med school b/c of the long hours out of my life that come with the job.

Professional golfer. Then again there's no reason I can't be both.

Rob a bank. Open a gun store. Be a roadie for Van Halen. A/C repairman.

If not pharmacy, then I'd like to pursue a career in music. I'd love to take music theory and history courses. I can play piano and guitar, but I don't have time to practice anymore. So, I'd love to become proficient at those, plus maybe other instruments and do something with that.

I have a degree in marine biology, so I'm technically already a marine biologist. I probably would have gone for secondary science education if I hadn't fallen for pharmacy.

BTW why is Piggly Wiggly a Louisiana thing? I grew up in Tacoma, WA and I went to Piggly Wiggly with my grandparents when I was a kid. They had the good popsicles and those strips of suckers that you hang up and tear out as you want them.

I would definitely join the airforce and fly the new F-22 going Mach 1.7. mu hahahahahhaa. 😀

Nope. It's a Southern thing for the most part. I grew up in Memphis, TN, and we had them there. My father lives just across the stateline in Mississippi, and there used to be one in his town. I think it's gone now, though. And I wouldn't be surprised if there were some across the river in Arkansas, too. 🙂

I've never seen them in Kentucky...

Hey, when you graduate you can still join the air force as a commissioned officer and fly.......a spatula and a counting tray! 😱 😉

I have always been crazy about music so maybe I would have a career related to that. I also may have wanted to be a mathematician... Actually, I have never been sure about what I wanted to be. My dream was to learn everything out there and be one of the smartest in the world! I thought I could achieve this by taking classes in college throughout my life, earn many degrees, and have different jobs at different times. Of course that's unrealistic

I would love to stay in school for the rest of my life. You learn new stuff all the time and every semester things switch up. It would be great, but alas, you're right... very unrealisitc.

I have a big background in music but I would never enter that as a career. I would also never do research or become a vet.

Maybe a police officer? The coast guard? A beach front professional lifeguard and run around halfway nakid all the time? I don't know. Maybe if I could suck it up and take the MCAT, I would become a doctor

I agree, but the one disadvantage with school is: your paycheck is always in the negative range.

Mine is about -$25,000/year as we speak. 😉

oh, I also forgot to mention that I'm into psychology too. So, most likely, I'd probablly be a psychologist. The human mind seems to be of interest to me too.

haha funny, my eye sights are too bad though, thus a dream.

Just work for a week or so, eye surgery is pretty cheap these days. It is $299 per eye here right now on special. I know a lot of people who have had it done and they are all thrilled. 👍

We had a guy in my first dorm that was doing that. He (it has been 9 years-I can't remember g/f names from then, how could I remember this guy's name?) was in his 70's, and walked with a cane. Lived on the third floor with us crazy drunks. Rumors from credible sources said he had something like 6 B.S. degrees, and was spending his retirement doing what he loved to do-learn.

South-I'm just engaged, and it took me 5 years to do that. How long do you think I can put off a wedding? The rent is free right now (and the underground parking space, the groceries, hopefully the root canal, etc). If I get hitched, I'm sure she'll want me to kick in something towards my upkeep... 😀

My dream job is being a janitor 🙂 . I love cleaning stuff at home...but oh well..they don't pay that well for being a janitor...So ..🙂

You're crazy... 😛 But if I can bring you one step closer to fulfilling your dream, you're welcome to come and clean my house ANYTIME you want

If only these two choices were possible, then I guess you can... in the sense that definitely not anything else.

Probably an environmental biologist or a forest ranger. I love the outdoors.

When I was really little I always wanted to be an archeologist, like Indiana Jones, or an astronaut. 😛

If I were younger and redid everything and had more drive, probably medicine.

My dream job more likely, though, would be an artist. I love creating and expressing myself visually, but unfortunately all this pharmacy really can stifle you while in school. Best part of pharmacy is when we graduate, we'll still have time and money to pursue these interests. I can't wait to restart painting again before I lose any skill I once had... :scared:

A dancer - jazz and lyrical. I danced from the time I was 3 till I graduated undergrad. I miss performing.

1. a country vet; a horse doctor 😀

2. an editorialist/writer/magazine worker
