If schools use cumulative GPA then how come it isn't on AMCAS

I have looked at excel spreadsheets that mimic the formatting of the conversion guide on your actual application. I have read that cumulative GPA is the biggest determining factor in getting accepted (other than MCAT score). If this is the case then how come they only have BCPM GPA and ALL OTHER A/O GPA and not cumulative GPA on the AMCAS application?

I think it would make sense to have a cumulative GPA box at the end of the AMCAS grade sheet in addition to BCPM and AO.

😕

Total GPA is on AMCAS.

Perhaps wait until you've seen the primary before freaking out about what is and isn't on it...

If you look at your verified application, cumulative GPA is there. There are 3 columns: BCPM, AO, and Total. Your cumulative GPA should be listed under the "Total" column.

You're right. I should just wait until I fill it out next May. Argh....

All of the conversion sheets never mentioned total/cum. gpa though. Thanks for shedding some light.

What is the point of the AO category.

1.) If they have both your cGPA and sGPA doesn't that hint at what the "rest" is?
2.) Do they care about a high AO GPA or is it just the BCPM GPA breakdown they care about.

I ask because I am a student who has a much better AO (4.0) than BCPM (3.7).

Well, this would tell them the sciences may not be your strongest point; however, I wouldn't really worry about it unless your BCPM drops below, say, a 3.5 or 3.6. At a 3.7, you are still averaging an A-. No one is going to have any problem with that. The average matriculant has an overall GPA of 3.67 w/ an sGPA slightly lower than that.

You can always make an account for this cycle and sign in to see what it all looks like. As long as you don't hit submit, you're fine.
