This is for any attending, resident or student: If you could choose 1 rotation to do that you've always wanted to do/never got to do what would it be? EM aside, of course 😉 I have an elective the last month of med school, but not really sure what to do it in. I will glady accept any suggestions 😀

Hmmm... my favorites:

- Wilderness medicine (especially if you get to spend a few weeks in a part of the country you haven't been to before, or just a rotation that's filled with hiking, etc)

- Hyperbarics - can you say scuba diving? 🙂

- An EMS rotation (if you weren't a medic in your past life - if you were, then one where you get to fly would still be pretty cool)

- Maybe something international? IE, work in a crazy rural hospital half the day, spend the rest of your time hiking/biking/traveling...

I had one of those "I've always wanted to do this" rotations at the end of 4th year.

I did forensic pathology. It was phenomenal... probably my favorite rotation of 3rd/4th year (ER included). I'd hate to do it for the rest of my life because I can't stand to look in microscopes, but the place I did my elective let me get away with only doing the autopsies and going to do scene pickups and exams so it was great.

Plastics (I mean, sure interrupteds and the occasional mattress fix all things, but it would have been cool to do tons of suturing with a variety of techniques.)

I second doctor bob: forensics

anesthesia, wish I'd done it because I would feel more comfortable intubating. But if there had been a forensics class... NOTHING would've stopped me from taking it  😍

I actually did a forensic path rotation.... and I must say it was definitely one of my favorites! Very awesome. I thought about plastics, or going somewhere geographically cool for 3 weeks. Keep the ideas coming! 😀

My school allowed for one rotation in a foreign country. Many of my friends went to India, Costa Rica, Bolivia, and Australia. I really wish I had done that.

If your school has a tox rotation, seriously think about it. I did one here a few months ago, and it was so good that I started thinking I might want to do EM. (Our elective at Case is offered through peds, so don't only look for one in your EM dept.)
