Hi all,

I'm currently a senior in undergrad right now and will be starting med school a year from now. I'm very interested in going into radiation oncology and think that it would be a great specialty for me. I'm a pretty smart guy (>40 on the mcat) and I'm really motivated. I've read through the faq and other threads in this forum and I understand that it's ridicuously competitive to match into, so I was wondering what you would do to optimize your chances?

Specifically:
-is it a big help to go to a prestigious private school vs. a lesser state school?
-any extracurriculars that are help (aside from research)?
-other stuff that people never think of?

Thanks a lot!

I think you'll find a lot of the answers you're looking for if you take a look at the application guide.

I would start doing research in the field the day you begin medical school. Make sure you pick a school with a strong program, get published, and make connections. This field is not that hard to match into, it just takes a little extra work.
