If you have already interviewed at TCOM, please give me your thoughts on what to expect and what the day is like.

Thanks

I interviewed back in July so I'm not sure if they are doing things exactly the same or not. It was very laid back. There were about seven of us in the entire group. We were shown several presentations in a conference room on subjects ranging from the campus master plan, curriculum, financial aid etc... First interview followed and lasted around 30 minutes.

Lunch was at a very nice botanical garden restaurant. We went for a campus tour with the students after lunch followed by the second interview. The day concluded with a file review by one of the adcom members. Very nice and laid back the entire day.

very relaxed day... they interview in small groups which is nice. I think there was only 10 people in my group. Nice lunch, order something nice like the shrimp bistro? pasta (I cant remember what exactly it was but it was so much better than the lame sandwhiches most people stuck with!)

Be prepared for the classic why DO question, it came up in one of my interviews and I think its pretty common.

TCOM was my first interview and so i didnt realize it at the time but they are really lacking with studnt contact. The entire day we only got to talk to 2 students!!! this is sooo different than all of the other schools where I talked with tons of students... so if you can I would definitly recommend staying with a student host and asking tons of questions. I didnt do this but now i wish i had because i feel like i know so much less about the culture at TCOM than any other school

Also dont stress if your interviews arent amazing. I had one great interview and one pretty awkward one and I got in... so dont beat yourself up if they dont go perfect.

I was there in July also and I thought it was the nicest of the interview days I had. There were 10 or 15 of us which made for a better tour. The same two students spent the whole day with us. One was MS1 and the other was MS2. My interviews were really short, 15 minutes max. Same 3 questions...Why medicine, why DO, why the career switch. They didn't really grill me on the DO question, like asking if I applied to other DO schools. They were both with Ph.Ds. The admissions office also took time with each of us to check over out files to make sure everything is in order.

How long was it before you heard form them?

everyone that's heard anything found out on the 15th. I don't know how they're doing rolling admissions and the match.

I heard a rumor that last year, after november 15th TCOM let people know really soon after their interview... but that was a rumor so I dont know

I interviewed in early August, and my day sounds a lot like PT2MD's. The only difference is that I had my interviews back-to-back first thing in the morning, so I could relax the rest of the day. The interviews were very relaxed...no ethics questions, just why DO and some general questions about interesting things on my application. I think some of the other applicants that day did get ethics questions, though. Oh...I did get a question about how to fix the health care system. I didn't think I did a great job interviewing, but I must have done well enough because I was accepted. Best of luck to you! :luck:

Pretty much like PT2MD said. Presentation of school and fin aid in a conference room, lunch, interviews...2 for regular admissions, 3 if you're applying to the rural track.
