The performance was great, but I think the biggest thing about this video is that it captures an absolutely life-changing moment. She went from complete and utter obscurity in nowhere-ville, Scotland (actually, I think it was Blackburn) to having over 20 million hits on youtube in less than a week. And that's not including the probably 10 million other views collectively of other videos. I think it's amazing that the US is getting so enamored with her because we're essentially showing the world that the American Dream is alive and well even in the midst of a depression! I haven't bought a CD in a decade, but if she produces one, I will. I hope she makes millions.

bloody brilliant

Makes me wanna watch Les Miserables again. Some darn good musical numbers in that one.

P.S. not gay

I guess we know whos doing the soundtrack to the next awfull shrek movie.🙂

Pretty cool story though.

I think he is implying that all people who like Les Miserables are gay so he felt the need to clarify that he is the atypical fan. I really like the musical numbers in RENT.

P.S. not gay too

The stereotype is that all men who like musicals are gay. I was making a joke. God you people can be uptight.

Not just obscurity, but a very lonly, and unemployed obscurity. The perfect underdog.

The song was also perfect, went very well with her personal story. If she had gone with some kind of pop music, even with her voice, I wonder how it would have worked out.

Also they had some very good editing here. I love how they had the 'frumpy' music following her around until she got to the stage, and then kept 'her' music going afterwards.

And, yes, they've already signed her to a record deal.
