If You Produced Patents as An Undergrad, Get In Here

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What were they for?
Dissolved gas sensor (commercial product)

How did you get involved in your research?
Fluke. I can't overemphasize the importance of networking.

Did the PI of your lab give you a lot of responsibility at first, or what?
Naturally, the first few months entail learning the lab techniques (as well as the appropriate coursework). From there I was basically treated as an autonomous contributor (designed my experiments, submitted a couple pubs, etc). However, even in the late stages you should not carry yourself as 'above' busy work (after all, that's why they hired you). So, enjoy your autonomy but complete your grunt work with a smile.

Oh, I misread your thread title. I thought that you said "if you produced parents as an undergrad....." I was curious about how to do that! No, I did not produce either parents or patents as an undergrad.

I had to read it three times to get it right.

I thought about a temporary device for vesico-vaginal fistulas that could be worn by those who are in third-world countries and who are waiting to have a repair. I would probably get crazy looks. lol 🙂

yea i'm giving you one right now.

Picked up one related to high-power, high-efficiency DC/DC converters before leaving my undergrad. Few others (hopefully) in the works at my current employer (employer owns them of course, but still cool to get them in your name).

My dad gets a few patents a year (electrical engineer). I should try to get on one of his.😀
