Again I am not trying to cause a debate and I know that most dental schools want prerequisites to be completed at a 4-year university as opposed to community college. I understand that they will view students as taking the easy way out by taking prereqs at a CC. However, let's say
student 1
went straight to an unranked or tier 2/3 university and did all of his/her prereqs there and did well in them
student 2
Bad HS record, went to a CC and did most if not all of his/her prereqs there, did well in them and then transferred to a tier 1 or top 100 university in the US to take upper level classes and still did well.
which applicant would be more competitive ?
I am student 2 and actually am contemplating of transferring to one of the a top universities like Lehigh, Ohio State, Tulane, Maryland College park, Cornell, Or even Columbia. I have gotten offers from them but I will probably stay in-state (rutgers NB) to keep the cost low.
I could have gotten straight into some universities that are NOT so good but decided to attend cc first and then transfer to a good one.
thanks!
