Hi everyone!

I had a concern/question regarding the temporary license for the state of Illinois.

Background: I am an US IMG. After completing my high school I went abroad to complete a 5 year MBBS program.

Concern: The Illinois licensing authority states that "an applicant must have completed 6 year post secondary course comprising of: 2-year course of instruction in a liberal arts or pre-medical college."

Will my high school suffice for the above requirement? Kind of worried about this requirement.

Any advice from any person with any knowledge of this issue will be appreciated.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I will tell you this - you'd better get on the horn with your program and get this sorted out ASAP.

Illinois is an absolute nightmare for delays with government paperwork processing, and anything drawn-out could delay your license issue, possibly past your expected residency start date. I've heard of this happening in recent years to Illinois residents.

You need to make this a priority and need to be talking directly with your program coordinator who in turn needs to talk directly to the state medical board. Make this a priority to be accomplished right away. It's very unwise to wait a few days for responses here on SDN or elsewhere on the internet.

There are 2 people with knowledge about this that you need to contact now:
The PC
Whoever answers the phone at the IL medical board

... and whatever you do, don't call the board. You want your program to do that. They will have much more success than you. Unless your program tells you to call yourself.

i however, laugh at your misfortune of having to deal with that association in ?springhills? lol. good lukc getting ur license on time

His question wasn't about having an MBBS.

It was about not having completed the required 6 year post-secondary education required to get a license in IL.
