I'm applying to MSUCOM, but I have only 1 person to write me an evaluation (long story but two of my LORs are in BFE, one died, etc. ). So I have like 5 LORs cause I'm applying MD and DO, but MSUCOM says "**** no, get the **** away" when you try to send LORs instead of evaluations, right? What should I do? I'm thinking about crying about it. It's in my home state and they won't let me apply, damn them. 🙁

MSUCOM accepts evaluations from almost anyone such your work boss, as long as they've known you long enough. I was told that by an admissions advisor. So try to find new people to write you letters, they don't have to be science faculty.

yeah i agree with the previous post. get another recommender who knows you very well and can thoroughly evaluate you. you have to use their specific evaluation forms. the admissions office even encourage you to have a family friend write it too....that's what i did. good luck!

whoa seriously? I thought that would be kind of fishy, having a boss or close physician friend "evaluate" you. That's why I thought I had to have one of the profs who wrote me a LOR do the evaluation, so it didn't seem too biased. Thanks for the heads up! 👍

yeah... it says right in the instructions:
"The single most important criterion is that they know you well
Individuals to consider: supervisors of work or volunteer experiences; coaches; mentors; clergy members; family friends who have observed your personal development."

MSU-COM uses the evaluation forms in leiu of an interview so the only way you'll get accepted is to have someone follow their directions by answering the five questions on the form and answer them well. If you have a boss, mentor, physician friend who can honestly answer the questions well, have them do that. There is a full thread on MSU-COM admissions so look for that and read up!

Good luck

I just wanted to post up that you do not need to have a physician or other 'professional' type person write your evaluations!!! They specifically say use two people who you think know you the best....my suggestion would be to use whoever you think knows you the best, regardless of who they are to the adcoms. One of my evaluations came from a family friend, owns and operates a bar. The other came from a friend of mine (our age group) who has known me since we were ten. And I was in the first batch of acceptances! Dont worry about how your evaluator is going to look on paper, rather focus on if they will write a clear and coherent positive appraisal of you. Sit down and discuss the questions with them, the first one is especially kind of tricky to answer. If you need any help, or have any more questions, post em up here or PM me! G'luck
