If I don't bring up my ACT score, i'll probably end up getting into a school like UIC and I worked way too hard and now what's going to hurt me getting accepted into college is the stupid ACT score.

What's wrong with going to UIC? I'm not seeing the problem. 😕

Practice tests are KEY for the ACT.. I would recommend taking 2 at least.. Work under the real test conditions (time limit, etc..)

Yeah, that's what school I'm talking about, University of Illinois at Chicago. It's not where I want to go, ever since the beginning of this year I wanted to go to STLCOP or UIllinois. I have a 3.92, and 4.1 with Honors. I've taken 3 ap classes since freshman year and plan to take 3 more senior year. I don't know. I'm praying that my ACT score improves my 2nd time taking it. Scores are up this wesenday. Pray for me. :/ Standarizing test, even with studying, I'm not good at. I'm just hoping for a 26 now. Before, I was trying to shoot for a 26. Next year, I'm taking AP Chem, AP Gov/Macro, AP Spanish. I'm in the the top 25 of my class out of 700 students. Since freshman year, the amount of clubs came down to two. I was in 4 freshman year, and now I'm in 2. I'm president of health & medical careers club, and for BPA I already made it to state, maybe nationals? We'll see. But I'm really praying that my ACT score improves this wesenday. I don't want to go to a community college, I've worked way too hard. I'm sorry. I and everyone else I know looks down upon community college. And there's people who have like straight Ds who go to community college in high school, and then there's my friends brother who was extremely smart but ended up going to community college because he got caught with drugs. :/
There are people that go to community colleges and are successful in life, believe it or not. College is what YOU make of it.I and everyone else I know looks down upon community college. Uh...if you have those stats you can get in places. Just because UIC wasn't your first choice doesn't make it a bad school. I've never looked into it, but I've heard good things on the boards. I doubt your ACT score can be low enough to keep you from getting into UIllinois.
op?yeah, that's what i thought. No idea, though. Maybe the op is one of those harvard or bust types?
As written, that's contradictory, but I assume you mean it's not a highly-ranked, prestigious school, yes? Well, like katanagirl said, college is what you make of it. I'm assuming you're not looking to go into business or law since you're posting on this forum, so school prestige is going to be quite unimportant for you. As long as you post a solid GPA, health schools aren't really going to give a rat's ass where you went to school. Of course, that's a moot point anyway since UIC is a large, prominent state school that carries a good deal of weight with its name. It would certainly be better for you to go all 4 years at UIC than to start out at a community college and transfer elsewhere.UIllinois is a tough school to get into; and with my ACT score, I believe I don't have a chance. It's not a bad school, but it's a school with isn't exactly really competitive.
Here is some of the best advice I ever got:
Go to a community college for the first 2 years and then the school of your choice for the last 2. Where you go to college doesn't really matter. Grad. school does matter, so go to a community college for a couple of years and then with all the money saved you can go to any grad. school you'd like.
100% true. 👍
I disagree. If you can get into UIC, go. There is no reason to not go to UIC just because you want to get into UIllinois. If I were you, I would go to UIC and if you really can't stand it there, transfer to UIllinois after a year or two. But this is all hypothetical since it rests on you not doing well on your exams, but you will do fine, so don't worry. Good luck!🙂
