I'll have a BS in Biology, and my undergrad gpa will be slightly low for med school admissions (2.1). My science gpa is 2.9 so that's a little better, and I did fairly well on the MCAT 25 (7vs, 8bs, 10ps). I'm wondering if I need to go to grad school to boost my gpa up a little bit and then apply, or if I should just apply broadly this year and hope for the best. DO and Caribbean are out of the question.

Then at this point medical school is out of the question. You need major GPA repair to even be considered for DO schools, and there is no realistic chance of you getting into any MD school with those numbers. You need a GPA repair and an MCAT boost by at least 5 points to even be considered for an SMP. All that aside... you still need the typical EC's (volunteer, leadership, research, etc).

The median MCAT is 30...

Grad school doesn't change your ugrad GPA, by the way.

Rush Limbaugh barely graduated from high school and flunked out of college. Go into radio!

I'm just looking for people's honest opinions here, am I crazy for trying to be a doctor?

You're crazy for coming on SDN with numbers like that and expecting people to take you seriously.

with those numbers, it's unlikely. a lot.

Oh yeah, my mom's great grandfather was native american, I'm not sure if schools would take something like that into consideration, but i figure that it might be worth mentioning in my personal statement.

ummmmm...where did you graduate from? Even if it was a 3.1, you would have a slim chance. A 2.1 is a C average. A 2.0 is the min (at least for my school) you need just to graduate from undergrad!!!??? You have some major major work to do if you would like to go on to even a masters program.

i dont believe you.
if you are real, im sorry. (start praying/get another degree/lower your standards/?????)
if not...youre not a very good troll👎

Really? Devote at least a paragraph to it. My mom's great-great grandmother was of Mayan royalty, and that composed about half of my PS.

:smack:

Please stop talking.

you might have an angle there. especially since 1/32 native american trolls are very under represented in medicine...

feeding trolls is like going to a petting zoo. why are do/carib options out of the question? who/what are you trying to be first and foremost?

Just something bout having that MD after my name sounds good lol i dunno. I don't think i'd fit in, in the caribbean, and DO just seems like the easy way out, but I guess I might apply to a couple

seriously! I know ppl w/ much higher gpas that got put on academic probation and/or "failed" out due to too many bad grades

I'll be graduating from a small school in florida... 2.0 is the minimum. I've really just bombed the past two years, senioritis i guess lol. But my advisor said that I was all set to graduate.

aside from the fact that you will not get in, 4 years of med school and 4-7 years of residency is a long long long time to have two letters behind your name...Go with the BS behind your name, they fit better

Your bubble is about to be burst, and, frankly, you are a disgrace to Rush Limbaugh and the other 2.1 gpa students around this grand country. Mods, end the agony. Put this guy out of his misery.

Dude. This is the most obvious troll I've seen on SDN.

haha got'em!

Because I feel really badly for you if you're not a troll...retake your low classes and go DO. You're not going to get into allopathic medical schools no matter what you do - be realistic. You can still be a doctor, but it will take more resolve than you have shown thus far, and a willingness to be flexible.

i get the point guys geeze. I'll know where NOT to go next time i'm looking for some realistic advice from people that know much more about the system than i do.

false...

some members were nice enough to play along and give you "realistic" advice.

So... basically, this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down and I'd like to take a minute just sit right there I'll tell you how I become the prince of a town called Bel-Air.

right?

ha this is exactly the place to go for med school advice, your circumstances just don't match the task at hand.

+1

but really....why choose the 2.1?
you could get a atleast a B- or C+ in any class without really trying

what a waste of imaginary money.....

why is this troll so addicting??!

well...what makes you think you will make it through 4 years of med school if you got senoritis your last TWO years of undergrad? Really. I'm being honest. Med school is a very long road, and unless you retake all of your classes (as in get another degree) you will have 0 chance. Just being honest.

One of my cousins is in med school and he said getting in is the hardest part, once youre in they try to make sure that you graduate so I figure if i can get in I'll be able to make it.

Edit: maybe i'm just being naive i dont know lol

lmao!!! yes...

Well I guess that answers my question, I think I still might try to apply and just apply to like 30 schools and see what happens. I think if i can make it to an interview then I could sell them haha

i like mr bubbles and i am here to endorse him. for all we know this man/woman could be a leading face of modern medicine in years to come. rather be on the right side of the show, ya herd?

You're right, he sounds exactly like the kind of person the DNP programs would be recruiting :meanie:

(ohhhh snap)

In your other post in Feb, you stated
"Back during my undergrad in 2008 I was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana."

Explain that now with a 2.1

SEPPUKU!😀 But seriously I really hope this guy is a troll. If not then i'm very sorry for you, because gpa unless you decide to re-do 3 years of Undergrad and apply DO broadly you will not be a doctor.

you know glenn beck murdered someone and he grossed 23 mil last year. aint no shame in dat!

what I can't get over is how much he looks like a baby. He's got that freakish Woody Harrelson, Winston Churchill thing going on where he looks fresh from the womb.

Glenn Beck, I mean...not the OP. Or maybe the OP, too. I wouldn't know.

All of a sudden, I feel like Trolls are underrepresented on SDN

incredible. bannie went until 3 am and nothing happened that night. this guy is finished in 30 minutes.

That will go down in SDN pre-allo history as one of the most epic nights ever. I am sure of it.

statistically speaking he still has a chance.
