Anyone have any thoughts on these programs?

UT San Antonio
University of Tennessee Memphis
University of Arizona Tucson
Loma Linda
UT memphis is very good program id say lower mid tier. UA Tuscon has a great match list and decent program overall. Loma Linda and UTSA not very familiar with. UT Memphis best program of those 4 in my opinion

Also Memphis is a 🔥 city imo

I was going to send them a LOI but decided not to bc their vaca time and schedule seems brutal lol also not sure about gainesville. Overall UF is a very strong academic program probs the best in florida I think congrats!
What’s wrong with Gainesville? @fldoctorgirl sounds like you’re a Floridian lol any thoughts on living in Gainesville?

Lol. Nothing is really wrong with it it's just a college town. Standard big university that's the main attraction of the town. Good if you're single for sure, there's lots to do as far as social events. Maybe not so good if you have a spouse who needs to find a job in the area (I could be wrong about this, it would just be my guess seeing as it's smaller). Overall just depends on what environment you're looking for.

Gainesville sucks lol. Nothing to do there. Fun for undergrad because lots of other undergrad people and college town things to do. As a young adult its boring and miserable. The only closest interesting city is Jacksonville which is pretty boring too compared to other FL cities. Gainesville is basically a tiny FL town that's only relevant because of UF aka a college town.

What about compared to UMass and St Louis University?

The silence is deafening this week. Really wishing I had used a brand new email for ERAS. I'm beginning to really despise Home Chef and ESPN for giving me false hope when I hear that email ping on my phone.

Anyone know if any other low/mid tier places who hasnt done a big iv release? Penn State just did it today. Has George Washington release majority of their invites yet?

What are you guys putting in the subject line for your Letter of interest email?

Is Yale PC still considered good? Like upper mid tier/top 25? or no because its still the PC track and not categorical? I saw their graduates page and it only seemed like 1 person did fellowship and it was at Yale. I spoke with several residents there both categorical and PC and they said many if not most PC track grads go into fellowship but I am not seeing that at all with the graduate list

This has been the longest period of silence I've had since apps initially went out. I'm happy with the number of interviews I have, but there were 2-3 more programs in my preferred region that I wanted to snag.

Im waiting on 2 more programs as well that I really want that i sent LOIs to haha if I get those Im like super content. I also need more to feel safe in matching maybe like 15 invites? im at 9 rn hoping I can snag 5-6 more but idk how reasonable that is considering its basically november lol I have only heard from 1 safety kinda scary

2 things:

1. The name will carry you far regardless of tier so end of the day it probs won't matter. Also I think tiering after the top 10 is much more individualized to the applicant than a general X is better than Y.
2. I'd take the word of the residents over the website which can be outdated.

Also would take into account how supportive they would be towards fellowship. Some people might get rubbed the wrong way

I think you'll be fine as people drop. I was told to keep January as flexible as possible since that's likely where the trickle IVs end up happening

Thats smart.. I might try to re-arrange some of my dates..

Same. Only one new invite in the last week. I guess this means most programs have already filled their interview slots and the only new offers that will come out will happen when/if others cancel.

Yup same here. Besides a couple end-of-business-day invites on Friday, I haven't heard from anyone in about 1.5 weeks. I'm still sitting at like 5-6 programs I'd be REALLY happy matching at.

And just to add insult to injury, I've seen 2 of the programs I sent LOI's to send out more invites this week lol.

Rip. I've sent 3 LOIs and haven't seen more invites go out from any of them. I'm not sure which is worse....seeing more invites and knowing I at least sent my LOI in time, or wondering if I waited too long and completely missed the boat lol

Well I just found the twitter of the PD for one of the programs I sent a LOI too and they literally sent all of their invites in 2 days...there were no "waves". So, my LOI was definitely too late as I sent it the day after what I assumed would be the first wave. That sucks.

Yeah, this seems true. I guess thats why LOI are being sent now. Not sure how effective they really are.

I don't think it's too effective but it's better than nothing. The thing that concerns me more is whether getting an interview through an LOI counts as a "real" interview in the sense that someone who gets one through an LOI obviously wasn't the programs first pick on initial review and is likely to not be ranked as highly regardless of how the interview goes. No idea whether this perception is true but it's what I've been led to assume.

This is my concern with the invites I got after emailing about couple matching..I know my invite from a top place is just a pity invite bc of my SO .. so even though I have a safe number of invites .. I’m still concerned and I’m hoping for more

Yeah definitely. I mean courtesy invites and ones brought on by LOIs/connections are still interview opportunities, but I feel like getting 15 invites (or however many you'd like) doesn't put you in as strong as a position as you think if half of them came from reaching out to the program. I have an advisor who disagrees and says an interview is an interview regardless, so I guess there really is just no way of knowing for sure.

For those talking about interviews coming from LOIs being less assuring/pity invites 100% no way true these programs get thousands on thousands of apps if they invited you they think youre a good fit and competitive for their program. as many people have pointed out and we have realized through this process many of these programs are ruthless and dont care about us to an extent so why would they put work into giving you an invite if you arent a fit or not competitive for their program. They certainly arent going to waste any of their own precious time. Just my 2 cents
