IM program invites

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
congrats.. i dont know how many i should have to feel safe since im couples matching ..anyone have any thoughts?
Based on what I know you have rn I dont think u have anythung to worry about. I also have zero experience with couples matching. Id imagine if u have like 12-15 you should be fine? If you know anyone who has couples matched def reach out to them and ask!

There is definitely no hard requirement to be fluent in Spanish for Miami (though it is of course very helpful if you are)
It just sounds miserable if you arent. I woulsnt want to have every other patient need an interpreter it just would make my already hard life in residency harder if I wasnt

Totally fair! I think it’s pretty manageable but can definitely be a hindrance

Oh wow did you end up applying? How was the culture/vibe, residents and attendings? Was it scutty? How were the hours
Sort of (applying Med peds)

I love Jackson a lot but it’s def not for everyone, it’s probably best for people who want a combo of gritty county experience (HUGELY underserved population with all kinds of zebras) and academic connections. The rotations I’ve done there so far have all been fine hours wise (though I did a lot of 3rd year at other hospitals - including with UM/JFK and UM/HC if anyone applied to those), gen IM wards are all night float. Not sure ICU etc, haven’t rotated there yet. I didn’t feel like it was scutty, though because of its nature there can be frustrations when it comes to things like arranging discharges and services for patients with a lot of needs. I’ve liked all the residents that I’ve worked with and they seem to get along well but it’s a pretty large program so there’s many people I’ve never met. Miami is a fun and vibrant city with lots to do, and residents seem to have plenty of time for it (though if you’re a more chill rural environment loving person, maybe not for you)

Sorry to hear that =( .. its impressive that its been your first one.. ive gotten 5+ rejections..and im sure there are more coming

Not sure lol I called them yesterday expressed my interest. also sent them an LOI. Still havent heard a thing. They said they just started this week
When you called them, did they tell you if interviews are all sent out already?

Is there a way to figure out what time an interview starts and ends thru ERAS? If I scheduled via Thalamus it shows the time but I don’t see a time when I schedule thru ERAS, it only shows AM or PM.

How many interviews have people gotten this week? Trying to gauge how slow things have gotten.

The spreadsheets are driving me crazy, you can never write anything on there. I gave up on trying to post my interviews weeks ago, but today I see someone posted an interview from a place I'm interested in and they're the first person to post this place in the history of the spreadsheet. But then they say there's only 1 spot available??? Ahhhh.

the spreadsheet have been hit or miss for me in terms of being able to edit… also realized they arent super reliable since not everyone post.. thats why i started this thread so ppl can share invites

It's because people keep leaving it open on their computers when they're not using it. It freezes up when there's like more than 50ish people. Although recently has been a lot less and more useable.

Basically based on the spreadsheet and my own experience feels like 90% of interviews start and end in Oct 🙁 hope im wrong
From the spreadsheet 2 years ago I saw quite a bit of movement in November. We should get some trickle invites from places until January. I have 14 but I am hoping from 1-2 places I really want lol

Anyone feel like there is no way to know if you did well on an interview? Lol I have had 2 so far and have no way to gauge if it went well. I mean I answered everything well and held a good convo but since it was soo informal I don't know how much the interviews help or hurt. Most of the questions are just do you have any questions for me? Lol

Yup, I think most of us feel this way. We were just chatting about it over on the ERAS panic thread a few days ago.

Anyone else think there might be something wrong with their ERAS app? .... I've gotten a good number of interviews but not sure how many of those are just courtesy invites bc im couples matching.. i'm just surprised I haven't gotten interviews at a few places that I was fairly certain I would get...especially with regional ties

So should I even count my waitlists? Essentially if I have 10 and 2 WL i really have 8? i am so screwed haha 8 is NOT good for it already being November
Do not count waitlists. Last year wait list movement was very minimal because of virtual interviews.

How screwed am I with 8 interviews? Its freakin November. What are the odds I actually get 3-4 more by January
Honestly it’s hard to tell, some people in that range match easily and some slip off their list. I had some trickle invites as the season went on. I wouldn’t be super worried until like end of November

Ok Ill just keep continuing to send LOIs until my face turns blue lol

I haven't gotten any responses from LOIs I sent...at this point it seems like everyone is sending them...I'm wondering if programs are even reading them when there are so many

Yeah i know it kind of sucks. Thats why I have resorted to calling. Its quicker and you have a much better shot of at least knowing they heard you if you are fortunate enough to speak with the PC on the phone

Have they been nice to you? I read on reddit that sometimes they were annoyed on the phone.

If you're worried about matching with 8 interviews, one thing you could do is add some more safety/community programs. I know you have a baller app, so even though they would be late applications you might have a shot of getting interviews from them. Could work to get you a few extra invites to pad your rank list, just in case of a worst case scenario and also too ease the anxiety of having to wait for the trickle.

Thats true haha ill add more safeties but the thing is I actually applied to a good amount of safeties and havent heard squat from them I even sent LOIs to these places despite being insanely overqualified for many of them. They still dont want anything to do with me haha. I havent applied to a single community program except Pennsy and Mayo Jax and dont really want to waste money on more community programs. Ill have to go outside my geographic regions and apply to places in the midwest i guess since I hit every single academic program basically on the entire east coast and every state west until you hit MO and the midwest states. I just really really really dont want to go to a community program but I guess thats better than not matching

I think you'll get more from the trickle, and even then 8 is a solid amount too. You could always add more community programs just to remove the threat of not matching at all, but if you absolutely don't want to go to a community program then I guess doesn't make sense to add some (but I guess weigh it against the hypothetical chance of not matching).
