I took orgo over the summer and that was like a full time job for me! I don't know how you plan to do both, but I know some SDNers have done it. Summer school is just cramming, so study hard and fast. The best advice I can give you is just to keep up with the work. Good luck!

I took Gen Chem over the summer of 2000 and worked as well. I have 3 words for you: PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS. Do as many as you can. I don't want to sound arrogant, but chem is easy as long as you reinforce what you learn with solving as many problems as you can. There was some confusion the last time I posted similar advice so let me clarify, if you are assigned the odd numbered problems from 1-20, do the even numbered ones too. Also work through the example problems in the chapter and don't fall behind because it's going to move quickly! Good luck!

Totally agree with the above poster. I aced gen chem both semesters and the advice given by the previous poster is exactly what I did. Make sure that you do all the chapter problems making sure that you grasp the concepts, plus try to do all the problems at the end of the chapter (not just what the professor has assigned). I am now a tutor for gen chem and give the same advice to my tutees. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the good advice. Kep it coming. . .

Oh yeah I totally forgot about the practice makes perfect part! These guys have good advice. Check to see if your textbook comes with a separate solution guide with more questions. That realy got me through orgo!

By the way, I liked summer school better than the regular year. You might find it easier to focus on just one subject rather than 4. So don't be too worried, but definitely make a study schedule and be sure to keep up with the work. That's the key! :)

Hi everyone:

I have a question for ussdfiant and efex 101. I am taking statistics this summer, will the study tips for chem count as well for stats? Do as much problems as possible? Thanks Guys!

Eduardo :D •••••Sorry, never had statistics.

What about taking on a full time summer job and studying for August MCAT's at the same time??? Good idea? No, that's a stupid question... what I meant was, is it doable? If any of you have done this and have done well/poorly, please let me know what the best way to study is. So far, I'm planning on making a schedule and sticking to it, but any other helpful advice will be greatly appreciated.

Buy the book and start pre-reading now for summer classes, work through every sample problem in the text along with the authors (so you really understand it, and aren't reading w/o comprehension) and do lots of problems. Chem and stat can both be approached this way. As to working and the MCAT, if you remember all your basic sciences really well, and plan to have no social life, and refuse to work overtime, you'll be fine. If not, it'll be a stressful summer. Plan to take a practice test every Saturday until the real one, and go through every problem you get wrong until you know why.

hey don't worry I took both chemistries during my freshman summer while battling a sever case of depression and I did very well. Just practice practice practice practice practice and when you are bored of so much practice, practice some more. life is all fun and games you just have to know how to play the game. best of luck.
