Hi everybody,

I know this question has already been asked, but I wanna go back to "clinical rotations" are not supposed to be listed as "work exprience"...

Being an IMG I think my clinical rotations, especially those in the US are a very important factor of my application...
We pick most of our rotations and clerkships ourselves, so the school is not really involved in this process, meaning they also don't really show up in my MSPE or transcripts, at least not in detail.

All my school knows is, that I did them and how long, but not exactly where and in what specialty....

Thats why I thought the only place I can put them is in my CV, as "experience"...or does anybody have a better idea?

The thing is I have "tons" of electives and clerkships, its just part of our medical education...and I really wanna mention/describe them....

But I have also read, that the description of work exprience should be really short...

This is what I got so far: 10 clerkships (betwenn 1-4 months each), 3 work expriences, and my research project, and for each I have a descreption of 1-2 sentences...I know this is a lot.....

But as mentioned above, I don't see where else I am supposed mention them?

Any thoughts/ideas?

And I also read, that away rotations should not be mentioned, but I guess this doen't apply for IMG's, right...?

I know a lot of funny question, but as IMG this is my only source of information....

Greetings from munich...

Hey, I am also from Germany and I put all my "Famulaturen" and PJ-experience in the work experience (also Doctoral thesis, "Hiwi-Jobs" where I did research. I already applied last year and got interviews. (Couldn"t start due to ECFMG certificate not being in by July) so I guess it wasn't wrong.
What I did was that I explained our med school system and what Famulaturen and PJ is in the MSPE (I wrote it and my school just printed it out and signed it) . So the programs have an better undertstanding what those are and that we really work and not just stand around the bed and watch the doctors do the work. I would put it in because all the hands-on experience we have in Germany (and the US experience) and doctoral thesis thats the only way to stand out among other students.

sorry if i'm interfering 🙂 I study in Hungary, I think it's a similar system...
So do you recommend to write down all of our 6th year clinical rotations? and if yes, considering my MSPE was allready sent, I should it put it all in "Work Experience" ?

@Drmed2009: Thanks for your answer, thats what I thought as well.
Can't have 8-9 clerkships and not mention them in the CV... In my MSPE/transcripts they are just mentioned, but no specifically described, so easy to overlook..
How much did you write in your CV, describing those roations..?
I had 3-4 full sentences at first, but now I decided to keep it shorter....decisions, decisions.... 🙄

So you weren't certified and thats why you have to go through the match again?

@ygmd1980: My rotations from my last year where most important, most of them in the US, more responsibility than ever, the longest time in a hospital...
so yeah of course I mentioned them all. Especially since the CV will automatically be organized backwards, beginning with your latest suff, so its the first thing somebody will read...

I actually mean my "regular" 6th year rotations, one you did in your home country, beside's USCE, are planing to write those down as well?

Yeah I just mentioned them all,
it seems you guys have a similar system...our last year is called "practical year" where we don't have any lecures anymore, only clinical clerkships/electives however you wanna call it, in Germany or elsewhere.
I split my practical year and spent some time in the US, something I definitely wanna mention, but I also had 4 months in Germany.
I don't see why I shouldn't mention it, its a long time, and good clinical experience...

I just try not to repeat too much, make it sound sort of interesting, without bragging, but I am still not really sure how ...😳

And I am still not done with my Personal statement....

And I hope my LOR's will make it in time :xf:....let alone ECFMG and their uploading time.....

well I have only 1 month USCE the rest was in my home country so not sure how appealing it is...
I'm also still working on personal statement, pretty stuck actually 🙂
and actually also waiting for 1 LOR, so we're in similar status I guess.

To what are you applying?

Haha: Anesthesiology 🙁

It's what I did here in Germany, and I really love it.
Now since I have been working in this field, I can't imagine doing anything else, but I don't have much hope...I know it's VERY competitive...

Oh well, we'll see.....

Good luck to you!

be optimistic! I know of an IMG who got a spot last year in Jersey! and it sounds like your grades and USCE are quite impressive, so never say never...

Good luck!
