I am a US citizen but I am also a Mexican citizen. I was raised in the USA and completed ALL my schooling (Elementary - Partial College) in the USA. I recently decided to go to medical school in mexico (UAG) b/c I am a mexican citizen I went in as a domestic student, I did this thinking that it would I guess be faster and cheaper, but I am really only getting 1 year advantage had I stayed in the USA, that's if I take my STEPS while in medical school, but the thing is I feel that medical school in mexico is lacking a little more real world connection, maybe because it's 1st semester, but researching other medical schools in the US and comparing curriculums I've noticed that they don't go by the standard semester division, it's divided into years and allows for more quality and detailed time to be spent on one course that requires extra time to learn compared to another. I feel that this method is 10x more efficient because you're learning to understand and practice while the semester method for medical school is just far too rushed and is more memorization than understanding. I am in a debate. I had previously completed 2 years of major-related coursework in the USA but left to come over here. I am now having second thoughts, but am in a debate whether I should go back and continue my education in the states or stay at UAG and continue as an IMG where I would have to re-learn or review everything in English to learn the terminology for the USMLE steps. Financing also comes into play, as school here is 100x cheaper. Opinions? IMG to US is possible but it's slightly above a 50% chance or higher depending on steps scores, I know the risks and statistics and yah dah yah dah, but I don't know if I'm staying here because I'm afraid of the costs over in the USA or if I actually believe I'll end up liking it here. Thoughts, is it worth going back or should I stay ?
