Hey guys!

Soo I am in a bit of a pickle here. For starters, I am an IMG in third year of med school in the UK taking the step 1 in less than 3 months. I have already extended my eligibility so this is my last shot!

I have been overwhelmed with family issues so have not been able to put 100% on preparation. So far I am still on first pass through FA

I'll cut to the chase, my goal is 240 and I was planning on blasting through FA and goljan for next 5 weeks while doing Rx and then saving last 6 weeks for uworld and hopefully get through 2nd pass on FA.

I was wondering if any IMG has had a similar experience. I have been reading that most IMGs require 5+ months so it's kind of freaking me out! And then I stumbled upon Phloston's experience 😱 (congrats to him)

Apologies if this has been answered before.

thanks in advance

Yep, similar experience. Similar time frame and similar score. I wrote something a while back - you can probably find it fairly easily.

But long story short, it's definitely possible, but you need to put your life on hold until after your exam. The fact that you can't push your exam is not a bad thing either - you have a solid end-point which means you won't start giving yourself excuses as the date approaches.

I dont know how different is what they teach you in the UK to what you are expected to know for the STEPs. But in my case, I did take 8+ months to prepare, because of work, family and because its in a completely different language, and asking things that I haven't seen, or havent seen in about 5-6 years. So it depends on you really.

Hey man, thanks so much for getting back. I read your previous post and it has given me an immense boost to my morale. I will follow your advice and see where I end up after taking a NBME closer to the time.

Cheers and wish you all the best!
