Hi, sorry if this question has been answered before. I know IMG have a hard time matching, specially with surgical residencies. But what about international students that got their MD degree from a US med school? will they have an advantage over those IMG's that got their degree from another country? taking into account that they are applying to programs that sponsor visas.

Thanks

"There's no comparing your situation to that of IMG's. You'll be an AMG. Your visa might limit your options somewhat, but there will be plenty of options."
Is this true?

I believe the person who wrote that is a residency program director so I would trust what he says.

Your visa staus will be the rate limiting step to your success (along with your USMLE scores and clerkship grades, of course). As long as some G Surg residency sponsors your visa you will have a better chance than an IMG who did not attend an LCME accredited med school.

Thank you for your answer, it's really helpful.
