Hi,

I figured I would post this here, since most of you are either taking Immunology in Dental school or took it as a pre-req, anyway I'm considering changing my undergrad to Medical Technologist, and I emailed the advisor for the program to ask about a couple of pre-req's before taking Immunology (A 2 sequence course of Principles of Biology) At this point the only Biology exposure I have is Zoology, Botany and A and P. I got an email back telling me that for the MT major if it is required for the degree and requires pre-req's that they bypass the prereqs and let them in the classes (If that makes sense) For an example, my college offers Immunology in Spring 2012, but requires Principles of Bio 1 and 2, so for me, means I'm not required to take Principles of Bio 1 and 2, so here is my question, before taking Immunology.

How difficult is the Immunology course? Would it be better to take the Principles of Biology sequence courses or would I be better off not taking them and just studying like crazy for the Immunology course, until January 2012 rolls around? I'm iffy about not taking the pre-req's, however if I bypass the prereq's to take Immunology, it will put me ahead of schedule about a year for applying for the Medical Technologists one year clinicals that are required, thanks and yes I know not really Dental related, but figured that most of you had taken Immunology and can give me some insight thanks..

I loved my Immunology course. Best thing I ever took in college. It wasn't anything off the wall. I felt like you could probably enter it with basic biology knowledge of what white blood cells are, what histamines do, etc.

But then again, it really depends on your professor. If he is a total hard ass and a terrible lecturer, then you might hate it. Check ratemyprofessor or ask around your campus to see if he/she is a good teacher. Then I would go off that.

It depends on your professor. I loved the course, though I do think it was a bit more challenging in regards to the depths of what the professor wanted us to know. If you think it's fun then I don't think you will find it too difficult. It all depends on how you approach it IMO.

hmmmm immunos a hard class anyway, even if your profs good or not. theres alot of memorization and alot of detail. Theres a girl in my class who is not a bio major and is just taking it for her PA requirement or something and shes struggling major in the class bc our prof often refers to "if you remmeber back in cell bio....". You definitley need to know the structures/functions within the body to help you visualize stuff/understand the mechanisms but i dont think its anything you cant teach yourself as your taking the immuno course. it may be a bit more difficult for you as you dont have the basis but if you want to put it in the extra work go for it, nbd.
hating immuno right now though. final this week. sighhhhhhh:meanie:

Hard! You have to remember all the stupid activating path way. our final had 6 question for 3 hrs. We took the whole time!!!
