immunology reaction

Penicillin group drugs hypersensitivity reaction is a type IV as it develops gradually. The hypersensitivity symptoms are somehow the same in all four types, when they pop up mostly matter. Please keep in your mind that most beta lactam antibiotics that are associated with a hypersensitivity reaction are a result of late, non-IgE mediated reactions occurring. These reactions commonly result in symptoms such as rashes, fever, serum sickness like reactions, and hemolysis. In a few rare cases, it may cause anaphylactic reactions and death.

Good luck with your exam. Apparently, you are working hard. When have you scheduled your exam?

I see what you're saying, I didn't take into account that the patient was on prophylactic treatment, which would take atleast an hour or two before the scheduled procedure could be done, and after searching thru the interent Iagree to what you're saying but what could have caused the drop in blood pressure?

I have plans on taking it late August.

hi
I suppose penicillin allergy shud be type I and not type IV. I referred Robbins for pathology and it gives penicillin allergy as type I. Can you guys explain why is it that prophylactic therapy changes the type of hypersensitivity.

Thanks

yeah i had hard to accepting at first too but, since it was a prophylactic regimen it would require the patient atleast 1-2 hours before any procedure can be done. Most type 1 reactions are immediate and would occur with a short period time after exposure of the anitgen. also from some related literature I've read from the net (http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1398-9995.2004.00678.x) there are different subtypes of type four reactions one of which is type IVb, and in this reaction, the typoes of interleukins released would stimulate IgE. what is bothersome to me though, is what the relationship is between the drop of blood pressure. what could have caused the dropped?

hey thanks...that did make some sense...
good luck with your exams
