Hey everyone,

Does anyone have thoughts on the pros/cons of attending a program (as a categorical, EM-only resident) that also has IM/EM or peds/EM residents? On the pro side, I can imagine that it may improve relations with that service. On the con side, it seems that the group of residents may be less cohesive if a portion of them are also IM or peds. Any thoughts or personal experience?

Thanks!

So, the EM/IM people are in the department around half the time. However, most places as an intern you're only in the department about half the time. More as a junior, and more still as a senior.
The only weird part is the few you start with don't graduate with you, and the ones you graduate with you may not have been as good of friends with.

But they usually make up a very small percentage of the residency, so it won't make a big difference.
