Does anyone know much consideration is given to Fall grades? Obviously I know that any grades are important but I am wondering whether the admissions committee may make their final decision based off of grades received after interviews. Thanks for any input.

Most schools don't factor in fall grades (in non-required courses) after you've applied. The only school that did out of the 10 I applied to was my IS, and only because I was IS.

I still have required coursework to finish this semester and some during Spring. I have received an invitation to interview at Ohio State and am hoping to get a couple more, but I am not exactly having a flawless semester right now. I am just worried that any interested schools could turn there heads if they don't see outstanding performances in Fall and Spring.

The required courses *could* make a difference in the fall semester. Maybe. I don't know. But, come spring, you will either be in, or you won't. As long as you pass any remaining required choices, that won't change.

This does not apply to early admittance programs and things like that, but yanno.

Also, I dunno how some schools do the waitlist thing.

My Davis interviewers specifically commented on one of my fall grades - my A+ in physics really impressed them. Probably wasn't the deciding factor in my acceptance, but getting good grades certainly can't hurt 👍

What kept me extra motivated was knowing that if I didn't get accepted on my first try, the grades would definitely matter in a potential second application cycle.

Just wanted to point out that I noticed I wrote "there" instead of "their" in my last post. Whoops... =) Its one of my pet peves when other people do it, so I had to call it out!

I have been wondering this as well and I don't really have much to back up my conclusions but to make myself be a little less OCD about everything as well as based on opinions of pre-med friends, I have decided that keeping grades as high as possible won't hurt you, but so long as you pass your pre-reqs and don't dramatically drop your gpa you'll be ok. Sure, good grades will be impressive and may help you, but I think it's safe to say that if you are only considering the results that grades will have on this application cycle, the last two semester grades are probably not the thing that is going to make or break your application.

There's so much 'advice' value in that statement I just wanted to reply to make sure it got re-posted.

Be optimistic about getting in (if only because pessimism is no way to live). But be practical about the possibility of NOT getting in, and be thinking about how you'll handle it. And that means continuing to get A's.

Thirding this advice. It likely won't matter all that much but if you don't get accepted you need those grades to be awesome for the next round if that's what you plan on doing.
