Hello all,
How important is shadowing? I have no traditional shadowing experience because it has not been easy to find a willing physician, but I work extensively with doctors and patients full time (will be 2 years by the time I matriculate) in a cardiac clinical research position.
I feel that I have a good sense of what a medical career entails by spending time in the clinic, ICU, in meetings where cases are presented, going through records, and interacting with people. I have watched many hours of surgery. I rounded for a couple hours once but it does not compare to the 50+ hours others have. I also have never shadowed PCPs.
Is my experience sufficient to be competitive, or is it worth fitting in hours before I apply this coming cycle in order to demonstrate I understand what I'm getting into? If I do report hours over the next 3 months or so, will it look like I crammed?
Thank you!
