In order to save character spaces I left no space after periods and commas. Is this ok? (I know this question is probably in the wrong thread, but I would greatly appreciate your input!)

Well, that's grammatically incorrect, so I'm not sure if you'd wanna do that.
Besides, I'm pretty sure they're gonna notice that, and they wouldn't like it, because you're essentially ignoring the directions they have given you. Part of the whole "you must follow the format" thing is for them to see how well you can follow directions.
