Members don't see this ad.
In an attempt to help out some of the people that visit this forum, I was wondering if y'all could help me compile a good list of FAQ and resources for pre-pharmacy/pharmacy students. Any ideas for possible content, links, etc. please post them in here.

I would love to see links for:

-class profiles for each pharm school (class size, GPA, etc.)

-board pass rates for each pharm school

-state by state info on areas of high demand for pharmacists (i actually saw a site like this once, but totally forgot where to find it)

-maybe some links to articles/posts/blogs on what its actually like being a pharmacist

Sure thing, Brill!

As always, probably more than half of all questions can be resolved by searching past posts in this forum. New forum members who have questions should try this first before they post a new thread.

A list of important pharmacy/pharmacy school links:

American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy:
http://www.aacp.org/
-Has links to all pharmacy programs, as well as some demographic data and career resouces.

Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS):
http://www.pharmcas.org/

Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT):
http://harcourtassessment.com/haiweb/Cultures/en-US/dotCom/PCATWEB.INFO.htm

For Fall 2003 pharmacy school statistics (GPA, application/enrollment ratio, etc.):

For general questions regarding NAPLEX and licensure:
http://www.nabp.net/
-There should also be links to individual state's boards of pharmacy at this site under "Who We Are" in the menu on the left side of the page

...for those same questions relating to California, specifically:
http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/

For foreign pharmacists wishing to practice in the US, here's a procedure list from the NACDS:
http://www.nacds.org/user-assets/PDF_files/recruit.PDF

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (has info on the CPhT exam):
http://www.ptcb.org/
For additional information regarding technician certification requirements, please refer to the website belonging to your state's board of pharmacy. Many states have differing requirements needed to become employed as a tech.

Oh, and did someone mention pharmacy blogs?! ;) I like RainDrop's blog, she seems to blog for the cathartic experience:
http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=raindrop

As far as posts about what it's like being a pharmacist, we have a few on this board who are current practitioners, and a few former pharmacists. Search for baggywrinkle, GravyRPH, AngryRPH, Samoa, Pilot, loo, and a few others I seem to be forgetting (no offense ;) )

As far as school-by-school demographic data, that could either be found at AACP, at the individual school sites, or by directly contacting the school. NAPLEX scores are usually shared by individual programs, except for the former California State Board of Pharmacy Exam results which could be found somewhere through the link mentioned earlier.

Hi! This thread is very helpful..thanks! I was wondering if anyone has the list of the 200 fast movers that we're supposed to know. I really want to get started on them and am not sure when Dr. Baron (?) will be sending them out. Also, what exactly do we have know about them (besides purpose, generics, side-effects)? Thanks so much!

Here's a link for the top 200 for 2002. My school wants first year students to be familiar with brand & generic, therapeutic category, indications, side effects, drug interactions, mechanism of action and counseling points.

Ahh, much better list! Thanks Amanda!

Considering that's a frequently asked question, I'm gonna add your link to my list above.

For students entering their clinical years in Rx school:

www.pubmed.org <-- resource for primary literature
www.nejm.org <-- great articles (though you may need to hunt for the secret password residents use to have full access capabilities)
www.medscape.com <---awesome for getting some insight into common and rare disease states and pharmacotherapy modalities (subscription is free)
www.utdol.com <--- impressive database that provides concise, yet comprehensive information on MANY medical topics (check your respective hospitals that often have free on-site access to this resource)
