Hello Canadians applying to Stanford,

I worked really hard at finding out what was going on with our apps. I was verified a long time ago and still do not show up on the Stanford status check as many of you. Since Stanford is one of my top choices and they have a rolling admissions policy, I was very concerned. I called Juhn Verano, an admissions counselor there and he said to just be patient. But I knew there had to be something wrong so I insisted he look into my file. He obliged and he found something very curious on my application-- there is a "hold status due to foreign app. in review". He said that they cannot process my app. b/c AMCAS has to remove the foreign hold status that they put on my app. I WAS FURIOUS!!! I thought AMCAS had done it again! Canadians are not considered foreigners in the app. process to most US schools, especially the top private ones--this I know as a fact so I immediately called Nancy Tillinghast, Director of AMCAS. She personally looked into my file and said that there is NO HOLD whatsoever and that Stanford had gotten my verified app long ago. Nancy rocks...she even had the people in another department double check that my app. is all nice and smoothe and sent out long ago--of course I did hire a lawyer as this matter was very serious to me--it is a breach of contract if Stanford doesn't process my app. due to an erroneous hold status that they placed. I immediately called back Juhn Verano and told him that there is no hold on my app. He looked back into my file and said that Stanford didn't put the hold status on so it has to be AMCAS--i wasn't buying it since all my other apps. were processed at the other schools i applied to. Juhn told me that it is curious b/c there are a lot of canadians, he said, who have this same hold status! I was furious! I called Dean Garcia of Stanford but he never returned my call! AMCAS blames stanford and stanford blames AMCAS...either way it has to be resolved or the party responsible for the unreasonalble delay/non -processing of my app. that i had paid for would suffer incalculable consequences as my lawyer practices in the states and said i have a great case. I called back Nancy and she was concerned about the pending lawsuit so she called Stanford to tell them personally that there is no hold on my app. Finally, Stanford realizes that it was their error (NO ****!!!!!) and said that us canadians will hear within the next 2 weeks about a secondary. problem resolved! BUT NO APOLOGY FROM STANFORD! 😡

interesting stuff

did you just find out about this resolve today? also, in two weeks (when we presumably find out), their deadline is, well, over. how are they handling this or are they simply just trying to pacify us in the meantime?

cheers

SO what's going to happen? Do we have to call Stanford and ask what's up again? or are you sure we are all going to get either a secondary or a rejection? In either case, I think I will personally call up Stanford tomorrow and ask them about the status of MY application.

The lady at Stanford that I talked to was Patricia Perez - her phone number is 650-724-5515 for any of you who are interested. She seems quite nice.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see if maybe I can get this straightened out.

If there is still some kind of problem, maybe we can all get together. A bunch of angry people sounds better than just one. 😉

Hopefully this will get straigtened out......

Two little and 'by the ways' I missed the first time out:

jase133: Stanford's website says the deadline will be extended past December 15th, until January sometime.

Osler Penfield: Is that Dr. Penfield, as in burnt toast? 😉
