17. The Ka of a particular para-substituted
benzoic acid will be smallest when X is which of the
following?

A. NH2
B. OCH
C. NO2
D. Cl
E. CH3

the answer comes down to A and i agree with that BUT it labels B as electron withdrawing!?!? is that correct i'm almost sure if u have Benzen-O-R that the OR group is electron donating. Im a right or dead wrong???

Any how the answer should be A. NH2 makes things the most basic and NO2 makes the ring more acidic. Since you want to decrease the acidity here use the NH2 group which can donate into the ring even more than an OR group

(1)Do they say that the OR group is actually withdrawing? or just that NH2 donates more than OR?
2) Do they show a picture or maybe consider it as the C is attached to the ring and doubly bound to the O and single bond to the H not like the OR group you are referring to?)

OCH = aldehyde in kaplan notation
