I'm assuming you are not applying this year...

No, your profs have to send out a copy of the letter to each school, you are not supposed to mail out the letters. Ask them how they would like you to facilitate this. Some of my profs wanted addressed and stamped envelopes, some just wanted a list of the addresses.

Also, ask your profs to write the letters in the summer some time or even right after you finish your class and ask them to hold on to the letter for you until it comes time to send them out. Find out what each school's letter requirements are so that you have all the neccessary letters written when you receive your secondaries. I did not do either of these things and now one of my profs is holding me back. That's all it takes is one prof to be late in writing a letter and your whole application gets delayed.

This is what you have to do if you want to be on the same playing field as people with letter services.

Hope that helps you out. Wish someone told me all this last year!🙁

you can do a search on sdn or google and use an internet letter service company. i am sure for a small fee your questions will be answered and your concerns vanquished.

So my prof's cant just give me the letters and I make the copies?
When are applicants supposed to send LOR's into med schools?

you can NOT see your own letters before they have been sent to the schools. the schools are EXTREMELY paranoid. how do they know you wont change the letters and send the schools better letters. You probably wont, but they are paranoid, quite legitimately so.

Thus, no, you can not send the letters out. Nor can you hoard up transcripts, and send those out yourself either.

Are you sure this would be legit? Most apps say somthing like, "either use your schools letter service or have individual letters sent if your school does not have such a service." I've never heard of this... probably would have been nice.

So, if you don't have a letter service at your school you have to have your LOR writers send 15 (hypothetical # of schools) copies of the LOR?

And, if your school does have a letter service you just turn in one copy of each LOR and they take care of the rest? Or do you still have to give them 15 copies of each letter?

Usually, you have the letter writer send one copy to the letter service office and they accumulate all of your letters. After they are all there, they charge you a fee for every school you want the packet sent to. These letters should be accompanied by a waiver of access form that you sign. If you want a template for a waiver, I have one you can work with.
