impossible to indent in the essay?

Is it impossible to indent when filling out the essay box? I tried copying and pasting directly from notepad... indents are there but when i preview the essay, it doesn't show up. I also tried to manually inserting spaces before the start of my paragraphs... same thing happened :/

In the instruction for this section link, it said something about not being able to indent but I don't know if it was referring to this.

just press "enter" to differentiate between paragraphs. indenting with spaces is just a waste of characters. and in the whole scope of things....you won't be rejected because you didn't indent your personal statement.

I couldn't figure out how to do it....I figured lots of other people had the same problem so it probably wouldn't matter....I hated the way it looked though.
