I just received a no go for Columbia's Postbacc Program. They sent the ever so clever "competitive applicants" speech. Anyway, I am a little stuck considering I will be moving to NYC right by Columbia because my spouse is working there. I don't know where to go from here.

Should I take it that they don't believe I can get in to Med. School? Should I apply to HES which is said to be pretty frank about why or why not they accept students into their program?(They say that if they don't think you have a chance they will even return your app. fee)

I really had my heart set on Columbia and I wish there was something I could do.

Thanks,

Down in the gutter.

What is your GPA? Generally, from what I hear, Columbia is pretty lenient regarding who gets accepted. Also, other schools in NYC have a post-bacc, including NYU and Hunter.

I had a 2.09 something like that but then I transfered to a private college and graduated with a 3.75 and a 3.28 cum gpa. That's what my final transcript said but I guess all schools use different formulas for calculating gpa's. I took gen chem., phys 1, and bio 1&2 for non-med students. Any word of advice will help.

That may be too many science courses that you've taken. You should get into HES.
