Focus.

yes, i do need focus. thanks for the kick in the ass jet.

so these are the books in my possession:

anesthesia secrets
nms anesthesiolgy clinical manuals
baby miller
anesthesiology review faust

out of these books, which is most high-yield for the test?

If you're about to start your CA-1 year, don't stress too much. Your program probably won't be expecting too much. If you feel a moral imperative to study, consider reading through the key points listed at the front of each chapter in Morgan and Mikhail. There's actually a fair bit of medicine on the exam, so you may actually do reasonably well .

If you're starting your CA-2 year, you may want to take a look at your keywords, keywords that CA-2s and CA-3s in your program missed at a rate higher than the national average, and the difficult items from the exam that a large number of test takers missed. Your PD should have copies of these and should be able to get them to you. In my mind, keywords are like the test writers saying, "This is what is important and will be on the test." Granted, not all keywords are terribly useful, such as the overly general "statistical methods."

thank you bubalus.

i am a ca-1. i still don't know much of anything, today. its hard to learn from these books because i have no real experience to relate it to, yet. i am just focusing on raw basics. i don't know how well i will do. it's kind of annoying to be tested in the first week of residency, to say the least. tomorrow is my first real day. anyway. peace.

happy july 4th, peeps.

Don't feel too overwhelmed Leo. I'm taking the exam as a PGY-1/CA-0 on Saturday. When I opened the letter informing me of this (with about 12 days of preparation time) I just assumed this would be one of those scores where you shrug it off and say "well it can only go up from there". 🙂

I think the only way I could really disappoint myself on this test is if I scored less than pure chance would predict. That would be somewhat demoralizing.

Then again, beating out all the other CA-1s and drawing attention to yourself is a danger all its own ... 🙂

you interns better not beat me!

anyway, first day today. anesthesia people are cool. they call themselves anesthesiologists though. but coming off of surgery...this is friggin awesome gig you all have! surgery sucks. we all know that, though. anyway, residents in these neck of the woods are totally cool. attendings, also cool. nurses hot.

what i love?
1. they expect us to know nothing, essentially, about anesthesia. love it because it makes you feel less uncomfortable about things. asking qs, etc.
2. they started with extreme basics. yeah, so im glad i went to the gym, had sex, etc. those times instead of reading.
3. they said they dont care about our first set of scores. they refered to the first CA-1 scores as "a control" for upper levels and for upper level years. you know, placebo. no knowledge. fine with me!
5. also, call schedule awesome. very few, i mean. also, paired with upper levels for now, of course.

very happy today. way better than intern year. the personalities so much better. the hours so much better. the job so much better.

still long way to go before i understand all of these attendings posts from here though.

also, they gave us a ASA membership!
now i can see the private forum!
woohoo!

interns dont worry about starting next year.
enough of that. i need to start reading now.
also: im not ******ed, just typing fast. word.
peace.
