In state school

Pros:
- cheaper tuition
- amazing city and have been wanting to live there for years
- family nearby and friends in the area
- school has a lot of diversity and community outreach programs I like

Cons:
- scandal recently making me question school integrity
- significantly lower ranked than OSU
- no affiliated hospital, rotations around various clinical sites around city (can also be a good thing bc more exposure but ehhh)
- super high COL city
- less opportunities for research
- Internally ranked ? (not 100% sure tho)

OSU

Pros:
- really good program and endless research opportunities
- cheap COL
- Super strong match list
- longitudinal, integrated curriculum that I enjoy
- amazing hospitals to train at

Cons:
- never been to Ohio and know no one there (very far)
- hate the cold
- say they're p/f but actually rank
- match list leans towards midwest, but could be bc of in-state students wanting to stay there
- slightly more expensive tuition, but may be able to achieve in-state residency at some point

Overall, OSU is clearly the better school academically, but the thought of not having a support system and living in Ohio is stressing me out. I'm not sure what speciality I wanna go in, so I don't want to shut doors and limit my chances by attending the in-state school. Please give me any advice you may have.

Can you give us some numbers if you feel comfortable? I probably wouldn’t spend more then 40k extra for Ohio stage

Tuition is about 15-20k more a year if I don't establish residency, but with the estimated COL and numbers the schools gave us the total per year is only 5k more per year

But if I establish residency it would be cheaper than the in-state school

I would go with Ohio state and establish residency. No affiliated hospital sounds like a pretty big deal and I thought that it was basically an LCME requirement.

I would say defintely Ohio state. Just try to establish residency.

An affiliated hospital is probably one of the most important factors to consider for matching. I’d choose Ohio State in a heartbeat, especially if you can establish residency.

I think I listed it wrong, like the school has clinical affiliates but it's not part of the school like Ohio State

Do the affiliates have residency programs in competitive specialties? Because Ohio State has every specialty under the sun, which is very important for getting letters of rec and for matching in general since you are most likely to match at your home program.
