Hey guys,

I've heard from someone on here that a school like Ohio state will give OOS students in state tuition in D2 if those students are Ohio residents for at least 12 months before D2 starts.
This would be huge for me, as it would save over 50 k over the 4 years of dental school

Is there a list of other schools that have this? Assume I am OOS for all states (I'm Canadian). For schools like NYU and USC, it would make those schools a reasonable option if the tuition/price was lower. What other schools do this?

Thanks SDN

You mean it would save you over 3 years. There are some lists compiled on here, search for your schools.

Hi:

in state tuition only applies to public institutions in the United States, not for private ones (I am a California resident, and interviewed at USC, and NYU, both of these are private), which means the tuition is the same for everyone in the world, whether instate or out-of state. schools such as UCSF, ohio state, UF are state schools, which means that tuition is lower for instate students. majority of state schools will NOT change your status to instate after one year, and a few do ( such as UCSF, and UNLV). change of status even at those state schools that do require you to establish residency in that school. at the end of the first year you will fill a statement of legal residence application indicating what you have done to prove you intent to make that state your permanent residence even after your education. to do this you must obtain that state's ID, driver's license, motor vehicle registration, and most importantly pay taxes claiming that state your state of residence in your tax forms. i am not sure whether you would be able to do this as a Canadian.

Best,

A post like this comes up every so often, you should do a search and see what you find. I wrote down the following from one:

Ohio State
Buffalo
UNLV
Maryland
UConn

I haven't verified these, and it came across that the difficulty of getting considered in state may be greater at some of these schools than others.
